Hello,

My DVD drive will not recognize DVD iso data disks (the type specifically created with Nero 6.0).

My DVD drive plays commercial DVD's perfectly.
My DVD drive opens commercial data DVD's. (ie: Computer Music cover disks).
My DVD drive opens and plays data and audio CD's.

My DVD drive can burn a DVD data disk that is read perfectly by Windows 98 but when the disk is put back into my XP computer, it does'nt even acknowledge that there is a disk in the drive, even though I just burnt it on the same computer.

Since the problem started, here's a list of the things I have tried :

Tried different DVD disks - Same result
Tried different drive in same computer - Same result
Cleaned DVD lens - Same result
Updated firmware - Same result
Changed IDE cables - Same result
Re-Installed drivers - Same result
Re-Installed XP - Same result
Searched through 40 different forums - No result

It seems like this functionality has been lost by Windows XP.

I'm pulling my hair out on this one, as I have 600Gb of data on DVD which I currently cannot access.

Any constructive help sincerely appreciated.

Thanks,

Rab

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

Hi,

I've got no problems burning an iso file to disk.

The problem is that my drive will not read the disk, once it has been burnt.

Thanks for the reply

OK, (1) if the material u burnt on 2 a disk was copy protected, chances r it copied the same way so you'll need software decoder, and (2), if it wasn't copy protected, then u need software that will read ISO files.

Below are a couple links 4 U:

Hi,

I think we might be at crossed-purposes about what I mean by an iso disk :

When I use Nero 6.0 to write a DVD data disk, it gives me a choice of which type to burn :

DVD-ROM(ISO)
DVD Copy
DVD Video
DVD-ROM(Boot)
DVD-ROM(UDF)
DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO)

These are all disk types which can be burnt by Nero in order to create a data disk, in my case, a DVD-ROM(iso).

A DVD-ROM(ISO) is a collection of generic files (in my case, unprotected Mp3's and Avi/MPEG films) that have been burnt to disk, using Nero. (just as raw data, in the same way that you would write a file to floppy disk).

All of these methods involve dragging files to the disk and burning, which I am perfectly capable of doing.

Here's a step-by-step account of the burning method used, just so there is no further confusion :

1. I put a blank DVD in the DVD drive.
2. Windows recognizes the blank DVD and launches Nero.
3. I select the type of DVD data disk I would like to create (DVD-ROM(ISO) ).
4. I drag the files from the relevant folders to Nero.
5. I click 'Burn'.
6. The disk is burnt.
7. The disk burning is completed successfully.
8. The disk is ejected.

When the disk is re-inserted, the drive does'nt recognize the disk, or the fact that there is any files on it at all.

If the same disk is put into my W98 computer, ALL the files show up, exactly the same as how I burnt it.

If I put it back into my XP computer, it wo'nt read the disk or the files.

So, to summarize :

My DVD drive will not read DVD data disks that were created using Nero 6.0 on the same computer.

I know it has worked in the past, because I've used it to create the 600Gb of data DVD's that I can no longer access on my XP computer.

Thanks again, for the reply

OK..........so you're using an outdated version of Nero, but u said it has worked 4 u in the past. Have u tried 2 update Nero? Personally, I stay away from Nero. I had version 8 and it gave me problem after problem. Try using a different burning software. C if it changes anything 4 u. Recommendations: DVDFab 5, MagicISO.
