Will not format stuck at 45%

My pc had a virus tried to clean it out but was unsucessful, macafee deleted the file and then my acer 5000 would not reboot
it would freeze at windows startup, i tried to reformat the harddrive it every time at 45% it would move past that point.
I then tried a quick format and was sucessful on the 2nd attemp, but when i was dounloading the drivers i would get an error
message evertime with no code, so itried again to format the long way and again it gets stuck at 45%. MY guess would be
it's the harddrive? Any sugestions would help please.
