Earl, I have the same problem with a Dell Studio 1737 (1 month old). After installing x64 updates
windows fail to start on restart due to incompatible drivers. Dell says the settings on the laptop are
correct and that the problem is with the microsoft updates. Thet suggest waiting for a "while"
before attempting to install any updates thus giving microsoft time to resolve the problem. So
I am to hold off on updates for a couple of months - during this time maybe one of them will come
up with a solution. If not, it's back to dell.

I have a Studio 17 which has blue screened me 5 times it is only a few months old. Called the tech and they couldn't fix it and I had to totally reload it. Everytime anything updates and it shuts off the computor it crashes. I never turn it off because it will crash. They blame it on everyone but themselves. I can't do anything with it but try to get it to reboot after repair. Got fix it Utilities and even that doesn't help. Last Dell I ever buy and they don't have anyone in Alaska who is authorized so I would have to be without computor for 3 wks +. It started to crash after 32 days.

It's a conflict with the webcam driver. Update the webcam driver, then do your windows updates and you should be fine. See http://www.forums.bestbuy.com/...

I have to agree with you.... I have a conflicted relationship with my new Dell 17 - had an inspiron for 5 years that ran flawlessly. This one I had the hard drive crash, and am having touch pad issues....LOL When it runs, it runs great, there are just a lot of issues to work out, and I can't tell if they are Vista issues with my software (Adobe graphics software) or hardware problems!
