Hello,
recently I purchased one kingston pendrive of 64GB from Palika bazar Delhi. I verified its capacity at the shop itself on computer. later when i copied some files on pendrive. it start showing the files on the pendrive. However if I remove the pendrive and again connect it with coputer, every thing simply disappears. The pendrive remains empty and showing full available capacity. I could not understand the reason.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

CAUTION PEOPLE:
Some pendrives are inherently fake..
they are smuggled through grey markets and are very good imitations..
any one can be fooled..
well if the pendrive is fake there is no one solution that ll work..
its just an empty stick with basic circuitry.
it shows there is 40gb, 32 gb ,64 gb or whatever GB it is.
So next time verify copy paste and then buy..

I hope there is someway this imitations work..
cuz my bro bought a 32 and 64 for really very cheap..
i checked them they were nice imitations

Hi,

Try the following, it will format the drive. After that files v copy in the particular drive will be corrupted and have no use. As the the pen drive is fake one. . The below utility is for formatting drives of huge size. Its better not to waste time and money on the particular thing. v r Simply fooled. Let be bit careful while purchasing these type of stuffs.

Download "fat32format.exe" & paste in system32 folder. then from command prompt c:\fat32format <path of removable media>. you can download from "http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/FAT32format.shtml".

Thanks jvin.it realy workd 4 me.

for those who dont get it yet, after getin d software and pasting it to the system32 folder u hav to type the full directory in the command prompt(just take run from start menu and type cmd and just press enter to get the command prompt) to format it successfully, ie, "C:\WINDOWS\system32\fat32format X:" (note: there is a space b/w fat32format and X: ,and "X:" is ur pendrivs directory)

to get the software (coppied from jvins comment)

still the pendrive is fake copying to and from the pendrive is really slow and u can't use the full space that the pendrive is showing. My frd presented this 64gb pendrv frm china, and im happy that i didnt disapointed him by sayin that his gift just "NOT WORKIN.."

thanks again jvin..

R u using vista or xp, if xp it is not compatable with xp bcoz it is exFAT file system ie extended File Allocation Table
it is new type which can handle big memory, i also purchased from same and it works correctly

exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table, aka FAT64) is a proprietary file system suited especially for flash drives, introduced by Microsoft for embedded devices in Windows Embedded CE 6.0 and in their desktop operating system, starting with Windows Vista Service Pack 1.[1] exFAT can be used where the NTFS file system is not a feasible solution, due to data structure overhead.
The advantages over previous File Allocation Table (FAT) file system versions include:
Scalability to large disk sizes
Theoretical file size limit of 264 bytes (16 exabytes), limit raised from 232 bytes (4 gigabytes in FAT32)
Cluster size of up to 2255 sectors, implementation limit of 32 MB
Free space allocation and delete performance improved due to introduction of a free space bitmap
Support for more than 216 files in a single directory
Support for access control lists (not supported yet in Windows Vista SP1)[2]
Support for Transaction-Safe FAT File System (TFAT) (optionally WinCE activated function)
Provision for OEM-definable parameters to customize the file system for specific device characteristics
Timestamps can finally be in UTC[3] rather than only local time (starting with Vista SP2)
Additionally, exFAT requires less disk space overhead than NTFS; One reviewer who performed comparative tests found that a 4GB flash drive formatted with NTFS uses 47.2 MB of disk space for overhead, whereas exFAT uses 96 KB.[4]
The disadvantages compared to previous FAT versions include:
Devices using exFAT will not be able to use Windows Vista's ReadyBoost capability.[5]
Licensing status is unclear. However, Microsoft has previously patented portions of the FAT file system.[6]
Not available for previous versions of Microsoft Windows.[7]
Not currently available as an open source implementation.

I have used in the vista you should format the drive in exFAT format and then use it if you want to use in xp you should install the drivercan only as like cd ie you can copy things in the drive but you can't copy to it

I started this discussion and after using so many solution, only one solution that worked for me is, I went to the shop from where I purchased the pen drive and politely requested the problem, after some discussion and all, the shop keeper agreed to change the same with good and I checked the functioning of the pen drive at the shop and it is working fine. I think this is the simplest and and workable solution to the problem, the shopkeeper conceded that some pen drives are like that only.

Guys to be specific I've a 80GB pen drive baught from Pallika Delhi, Tried in all the systems but it works perfectly fine in Windows Visa with SP1.

Firstly you need to format the drive in Vista as exFAT with this the drive will work absolutely fine.

Now I've a question if somebody can answer, how do I use the same or install drivers for exFAT in Win XP?

A Kingston 64 GB pen drive is faked pen drive. it can be verified when you insert a pen drive in win xp, a original king stone pen drive display a message " Kingston data traveler found" & when you inserted this fake drive in my case it shows "Ccore flash drive"

second thing even if you formatted this pen drive with fat, fat32, Ntfs, Ext2, Ext3 (Linux partition). it doesn't make any difference with respect to problem discussed with this post.

it is probably done by making changes in 4 gb or 8gb pen drive flash

so you probably wasted your money in buying fake Kingston pen drive like me.

I also bought the drive for Rs. 500/- and I am unable to use it due to the same reasons. I can see that some solutions have worked for some while the same has not for others.. This is very risky as I cannot trust to keep data back up on this drive as its completely unreliable.

Hi friendz,

My bro bought a 64 gb pen drive frm palika bazaar in delhi. It was a fake one. we tried a lot of utilities to format this one. When we search on different blogs at last we find it was fake. The below mentioned is what happens.

What they have done is, they take normal 256mb pen drives, they flash them and make the size show as 32 GB or whatever.Thats what used to happen before, but now these fakes have become even more technologically advanced. Now your pen drive will store 32 GB, but it can never be copied back on to your computer or if it can be, the data is corrupted. Since it never stored the files, it merely stored the headers.

Do not go in for such fakes, they're just waste of time and money.

Ramesh, on Jan 7, 2009 8:32:06 am GMT

This 64 GB pen drive is not a original Kingston make. It is Ccore some chinese fake brand. Now you need to partition this pen drive into less than 32 gb and format that as FAT32 and start use it. so far no problem, but still some files are get corrupted and some of them are working.

i will reply after 2 days of using this pen drive.
