Hello,
my name is carey. I have a gateway Model GT5220, AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core 3800+ processor,340 gig hd, geforce video, 2 gig ram, dvd, cd, etc. 2 fans on mb, A huge fan for thecpu and another smaller one in back of case. recently i have had to press the power on button sometimes 30-100 times to get the computer to come on. And I have to hold the power on button in for 10-15 secs for it to shut down?
Know I cannot get it to even start. No Beeps what so ever when trying to start computer. All I get is no signal on the screen and the lights will go on for a split second then go out. All thehat is on is the fans! I thought it was the power on button itself, which I replaced , to no avail...does the same thing.

Things that I have tried= unplugging the screen for 24hrs , reseating and cleaning all plugins and power connectors, etc. vacuumed the entire inside on the computer out. Next I will try swapping around the ram cards , reseating the cmos battery, reseating the cpu, and then lastly trying a different hd, whcih i have on hand?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated by all.
Thanks much, carey

It might be the power supply.

You can buy a power supply tester.

Thx xpcman,

I suppose I can get one at any pc store, right? Another dumb question, where do you actually hook it up to? the specific plugs in question, or where on the whole power supply? Then again , maybe it comes with instructions?

Do not seem to be so stupid, but most of this is new to me. Can you actually believe I built my own PC from scratch, and it came out excellent.

Thanks again XPCMAN.

Well, I had this problem a while back. Multiple times on multiple computers. For me, it was the Motherboard. However, it could be also be a bad connection in the power supply.
