Hello Jasi,
I had a gmail outlook and its working on sending out emails.
Make sure that on your email account, go to tools then go to accounts.
When you get there, go to properties. Make sure on your servers says on
Incoming mail POP3 > pop.gmail.com
Outgoing mail SMTP> smtp.gmail.com
And your server port numbers, did you follow wha numbers supposed to be?
Example the outgoing should be 25 and incoming should be 995?

I have a similar problem as Jasi

port numbers i have tried different versions for the outgoing mail server. (25 on auto, 465 on SSL or TLS, 587 on SSL TLS etc)

my incoming is not gmail (i am trying to use gmail only as outgoing)
i send test emails. i include my two outlook e-mail addresses, my yahoo and my gmail addresses. same email goes to yahoo and gmail but not to outlook email.

Jasi have you tested your mails like i did? do you face the same problem?

Hi, I installed Gmail on Outlook, it was working fine all day but now has become very temperamental, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I have tried all ports suggested and again sometimes it works and 10minutes later I get smtp error, any idea why this is? Can anyone suggest a proper mail service I could use; I don't mind paying a little but just can handle the headache :(

I have set my Gmail email account to the MS Outlook. Emails are being received correctly, however, emails are not being sent from Outlook.

The server configuration is as follows:

Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
Incoming Port: 995 SSL
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing Port: 465 SSL

In "Outgoing Server" tab, "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" is unchecked.

When performing the "Test Account Settings ...", the only task that is failing is "Send test e-mail message" in Outlook. The error description says "The specified was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these settings ...".

BTW, in the "E-mail Address" field under "User Information", I have provided my Gmail account in the form of mygmailid@gmail.com. I hope there is no problem.

I hope these details may lead to a solution from the experts :) and reliefe all of us, the troubled fellows :D.

Well, what I found in Gmail Help that Outlook (or any other client) must support SMTP Authentication to be able to send email from Outlook using Gmail id. Therefore, the checkbox "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" in "Outgoing Server" tab must be CHECKED. I used the same authentication as I did for the incoming server.

Now, I have done that and the error I received in Outlook is "The operation timed out waiting for response from the outgoing SMTP server..." and of course the emails are not sent.

Any ideas pals?

I read the thread starting back in January 09 and I'm in the same boat with all of you. I can receive but not send e-mail in Outlook configured for Google. I'll look back here later to see if anyone has figured this out.

Well guys, I got it working. :)

Check the checkbox "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" in "Outgoing Server" tab and use the same authentication as it's for the incoming server (use the radio button there).

So please do it and happy emailing. :D

Cheers.

Sorry...forgot to mention that I used 587 (in stead of 465) as SMTP port. But still I think 465 would have done fine. You may try... :)

Hi, Zoom, I've got my Yahoo and gmail set up like your pics show, except I have SMTP as 465 (tried 587 and still didnt work). No luck, still can't send. I receive just fine, but neither account will send out of Outlook. At one time all was working fine, but I've recently had to reformat and restore everything. Any ideas? Seems like Outlook is the problem. Thanks, Maggie

I as well had the same problem using two seperate gmail accounts through Outlook 2007. However, this was fixed by changing the recommended Outgoing SMTP port from 465 to 587. Issue resolved.

Had same problem with Outlook and Yahoo after changing ISP. Turns out the new ISP (O2 broadband) blocks port 25. I had to change the outgoing port to 587 to get it working.

587 is the only solution,Port 25 won't work. But depends on your ISP also. some ISPs reject some ports.

I too was unable to send mail using Outlook Express with gmail.

I tried ALL the solutions on this page above. I've been trying to set this up off and on since December. Finally, I found the link below, entered the examples in my Outlook Express account and wonder of wonders, I can now send and receive mail through outlook express.

A lot of the problems stem from your ISP IMAP is best to use. I got rid of it in the end none of my outlook accounts are associated with Gmail now...The oddest thing is my personal website address is set up in outlook 2007 (2003 is a tad different) but when someone e-mails me to it it goes to Gmail...I only have the one account on Gmail So I can't understand why

Just follow this steps you will be able to send & receive a mail in a right manner.

Enable IMAP in Gmail. Don't forget to click Save Changes when you're done.
Open Outlook Express.
Click the Tools menu, and select Accounts...
Click Add, and then click Mail...
Enter your name in the 'Display name' field, and click Next.
Enter your full email address (username@gmail.com) in the 'Email address' field, and click Next. If you are a Google Apps user, enter your full address in the format 'username@your_domain.com.'
For 'My incoming mail server is a ______ server', please select IMAP in the drop-down menu.
Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the 'Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server' field. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server' field.
Click Next.
Enter your full email address (including '@gmail.com' or '@your_domain.com') in the 'Account name' field. Enter your password in the 'Password' field, and click Next.

Click Finish.
Highlight imap.gmail.com under Account, and click Properties.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP), check the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL).'
Enter '465' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP)' field.
Under Incoming mail (IMAP), check the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)'. The port will change to '993'.

Congratulations! You're done configuring your client to send and retrieve Gmail messages.

I made an error sorry...I can get IMAP into outlook it was not quite what I meant.
I took it off in the end as I have two addresses with my ISP.
What I cannot understand is when I receive an e-mail from a friend to one of these addresses (not this one) it comes into outlook but also into Gmail and I can't find out why I only have the one E-mail address ...I don't have mail from other accounts going there either
