Sound not working properly

I have the following problem..
I just got my laptop (Amilo Pa 1510) back from the repair shop..
and tried to play a file.. now my default player is vlc... and this didnt work..
when i tried winamp, it did work..
and for the rest nothing works.. browser etc etc
except for winamp and my "sound-card-mixer-software test"
I have Windows XP SP2

Hi, late reply, but i have the same frkin problem. Like i switch on my computer, watch a movie on VLC / Gom player, and when i try to boot my Winamp it says it can't find the sound driver.. And if i boot Counter-strike and try to play videos over youtube and such after i've finished playing, The sound wont play in youtube.
