Laptop screen not working

Hey,

well i have a HP pavillion dx2000 laptop. Just recently, the screen on my laptop refused to come on and when i plugged an external monitor in, it functions but with very lines and various amounts of different colours also the resolution is in rather small dimensions as a result and cannot be changed. need some advice please! thank you!

Configuration: Windows Vista
Firefox 3.0.3

Hp lists the HP pavillion dx2000 as a desktop PC not a laptop. Are you sure about the model number?

You have hardware problems with either the screen or the video chip. If it's out of warranty it may cost more to fix than to buy a new one. Sorry for the bad news.

You should be able to adjust the video to match the external monitor. In Vista - right click on any empty area of the desktop - chose "Personalize" and then "display settings" you should be able to change "resolution" and "display Colors".

While your on this screen click "advanced" and verify that your adapter type is set correctly. It should show something other than a generic windows adapter.
