I had this happen to me today with a REAL windows and about 2-3 months ago with 5 (and was kind of informed that of the real windows XP we had bought 3 were fake or something similar). As a matter of fact they were really bought straight from the importer, I installed them myself. Numbers were not on the case so they couldnt be copied by some engineer or nicked. In the end I managed to install the new windows, it registered fine.
I never found out what happened but I do know what happened today! Was my own system...
I had installed Google Chrome and it worked fine for a week but then I needed for some reason to get rid of it and I managed that. System was still very unstable so I took a copied original disk and installed it with my serial... (Reason was I wanted an install with SR3 with all the updates: saves time!)
Didnt work... NOTE: it was NOT a clean install so there was still crap in the system and there likely still is.
I killed part of the registry and then went through the key install again and this time it worked.
System is still not stable but its better. This silly route proves that if you are unlucky, maybe a virus or whatever
you can ALSO get this errormsg.
I had contacted MS and help was useful but not what I would have done myself and anyway it didnt work...

I had troubles deleting my WGALOGIN folder (the one inside the dialog box, right?) so I deleted the programs that were inside the wgalogin folder and I deleted all the programs inside except "default" because it wouldnt let me. I restarted it and set it to normal mode but then windows kept asking me for a password, and I have no idea what to do, someone help me please.

Thanks,
TNTL

I understand and performed everything successfuly up until the last step:

After being prompt of a successful validation, Restart your Machine

I'm not sure what you mean. What should I do to get a succesful validation? I attempted to install WMP 11, and went to validate but got the same 'invalid' message as always. Please let me know what I am missing.

Thanks,
MR

So once you've used that fix you can't use automatic updates anymore??? That sucks.

Sucks that you have to do updates manually? Gee, what a shame you can't rely on MS to screw your system auto-magically for you. I prefer custom updates myself so that you know when you'll be downloading something that will conflict with already installed software such as MS Update conflict with Zone Alarm. Thanks, Raj, your solution not only works perfectly it is amazingly simple.

I did a SEARCH from START for WGA & the 1st thing to pop up was "installer". I double clicked it, an old MSDOS window appeared. I "hit any button" as instructed. It then said that 1 file was copied & to reboot. I did & NO MORE MESSAGES. A LOT CHEAPER THAN $149 FOR SOMETHING I ALREADY HAD IN MY COMPUTER.

Hi there!
I have used WGAremover first before I came across this forum. My problem is even after using this software, I still received the notification. Then I tried to follow Raj's advice. But the problem is, I couldn't find wgatray.exe. I thought it may be removed by the software. Could somebody please advise me what to do now...? Thanks!

Friends even i have faced the same problem but i recovered my normal version of windows after trying this method

1)Safe Mode

• Reboot your computer and as soon as Windows logs off, start repeatively tapping the F8 Key on your keyboard.
• As soon as you see the Windows Advanced Startup options select Safe Mode within Safe Mode get yourself into these folders…
• C:\Windows\System32 (Rename wgatray.exe to wgatrayold.exe)
• C:\Windows\System32\dllcache (Rename wgatray.exe to wgatrayold.exe)
Note: Dllcache is a hidden folder, to view hidden folders do the following, go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options,
Select the view Tab and under the Hidden Files option, select Show hidden files and folders
