Hello, Windows XP Desktop is showing that its connected to the internet, but when I try to open internet explorer it says. Cannot Find Server. Page can not be displayed. How do I get it to connect? My laptop is wired to a router thats
connected to my desktop and the internet on there works fine. For some reason though just the internet on my Desktop does not work. I also hooked my internet directly to my laptop and it works fine. But still my desktop is showing the same thing. I recently tried to Install Windows Service Pack 3 and there was a problem. It said Access Denied then quit the Installation. Since then I am not able to access the Internet. Does anyone know how to fix this? If so please let me know thanks.

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer

Hi,

This is due to Virus and Spywares.
Follow these steps to solve it:
1. First of all download the WinsockFix Utility from the following link:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml

2. Run it and click fix.

3. restart the computer

4. go to Control Panel -> network connections -> right click the lan connection and click properties

5. In the general tab double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list.

6. re-enter the details as necessary.

I hope this will solve your problem.

Actually i also had been facing this problem since long, and couldnt find any solutions untill recent and i had to reload the operating system every time i got this problem. But now not need to relode the operating system with the help of htis utility.

(AND PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS SOLUTIONS SOLVED YOUR PROBLEM)

I have the same problem as above. Have tried to scan with ad-aware, spybot search and destroy and superanti-spyware. Have also run winsockxpfix but still cannot get onto the internet. The problem seems to be with the DNS. If I type in an I.P. address in my I.E. then it can go to the site but i cannot type in any web names.

What else can I do??

Hi there,

I don't know if this will work for you, but this worked for me. I tried all the options above on my Telkom mega105wr router. I went to network connections, right clicked on Local Area Connection, clicked on status, clicked on support tab, clicked repair. I was able to connect to the internet after that.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks !!!!!!!!!!! It solved the glitch. I could not repair my IP address, it told me to contact the service provider. However by clicking on configure that worked out nicely!!!! Then I immediately click on Widows Update and a big smile crossed my face. Many thanks to you. That glitch had me frustrated for a long.........time? Top of the day to you!

Right click on your internet icon and run diagnose and repair, if that does not work you can unplug your router, wait 8 secs plug it back in. If that does not work, reset the router by pressing the small button in the hole with a pen or whatever you can find that will fit and hold that down untill all lights light up then let go. Wait for it to re establish a connection.

To Md Vasiullah:

I downloaded the winsock software, but when i restarted my computer i got an error message:

Network Connections folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine. Please make sure that the network connection device is enabled and running.

And when I opened network connections I didn't see the LAN connection option anywhere.

Still internet-less. Advice?

Thank you!

Thank you so very much Md Vasiullah, I spent over a day trying to fix this, I thought it was my isp at first since it happened shortly after they changed some stuff over here (and it was affecting both my OS's Xp 32 and XP 64).

Anyway tryed almost everything, different cables, restore points, virus scans, lspfix, new users any, reinstalling the network driver and loads of other crap, untill i stumbled apon this winsocks thing which totally fixed it!

Just had to thank you! I've been unable to connect to the internet on my PC. My laptop (which is connected via a wireless router) has been working fine, so my internet provider was planning on charging me over $100 to come out and take a look (since it was a PC issue - not an internet issue)! You saved me lots of money - and you saved my sanity! I've tried everything imaginable for days on end - to no avail. THANK YOU!!! :)

Thank you very much MD... My desktop has been down for almost a year. I have caught myself looking and looking and looking on threads trying to find an answer as to why I can access the internet with my laptop, but not my desktop... I knew it had to be an IE bug, but have not been able to find ANY answers until I finally found this thread and read your suggestion. It worked. For all of you that keeps asking how can you download the link when you can't access the internet. I was asking myself the same question until I just tried typing the link in manually... IT WORKED...

So type it in MANUALLY... It should pull up.

Md Vasiullah's solution worked. THANK YOU!!!

To others having the issue - Download the file on a removable disk in another pc (i.e. usb drive, compact flash, etc.). Then put the removable disk in the affected machine and run it. One other helpful hint is to be patient. I have too many thiings running on my pc, and it probably took 30 minutes to come up after the fix. I will go back and start cleaning all the unnecessary programs running on my machine, update many malware and spyware tools, etc.

Good Luck!

Okay...so both of our laptops will connect, but dispays no website. Desktop works fine. Connections on laptops is excellent. Many things can cause this problem, such as cordless phones being near the router, the router being too close to the desktop computer, other networks interfering (like in an apartment building), and having to reset the network adaptor. We've been to constantly having to reset our network adaptors. That seems to not be working quite as well as it did. If you unplug the router, wait about a minute, plug it back in, let it boot up, reconnect to the network from the laptop, this usually works. It's a big pain in the ass, but it seems to work. Good luck!

Maybe you sre not added to a monowall if you have.. or maybe your connection or ip protocol is not obtained...make sure that your ip protocol is obtained.. to obtaine the ip follow this step..

1. right click the connection either it is lan or wireless...
2. choose properties
3. then click one the internet protocol (TCP/IP)
4. click properties
5. check obtained both

try it...
