GTA IV Needs A GeForce 8600 or better
that meanse any GeForce Card that more than or equal 600
example: the GeForce 8400,8500,9400,9500 or less than 600 will run the Graphics good but the game will run very slow
those card will run the game in midume sitting GeForce 8600 and 9600
and those cards will run the game fine on high GeForce 8800 and 9800

Hey Zishan, u must need Service Pack 3 to play GTA 4. I am playing this game in Windows 7 and it is running perfectly. Only problem is, inVista and Windows Seven, the requirements are too high. I have 4 GB Ram and nvidia 9600 GT but often I face some problems. So I recommends to play this game in XP Service Pack 3. And one more thing, please buy the original game cuz in pirated copy the whole screen moves round like a huge earthquake... and it is impossible to play in this situation. I bought original copy only for this reason.......

Maybe its cause u dont have sp3 installed. This is gonna be a pain for me i am installing the game right now but i have sp2. The problem is that i have a transformation pack on my xp to make it look like vista. But when i install sp3 which i have in the past the transformation pack dosen't work and it gets major problems. i then have to go back to sp2. I have looked it up and im thinking that i can change the registry to make it seem as if i have sp3 some ppl have said that it worked for them. Just don't wanna fuck up my computer if it dosent work tho!

Dude, where did you get xp x64 sp3? There is no sp3 for windows xp x64 because its based on windows 2003 (like a win2k3 client version) and thus has sp2 just like windows 2003. (sp2 for windows 2003 = sp2 for winxp 64)

No it won't look at the minimum and compare. Does it look like your CPU is somewhere near that or higher then yes you can play it but yours is way below that. I think the intel pentium D even has a problem with the frontside bus speed being way to low. Cause my neighbor cant run it with a 3GHz pentium D, 3 GB ram 800 MHz and a 8800 GT. It just lags like he doesn't have enough ram but gta4 doesn't use more then 1.5 gig in total. CPU load is about 80% all the time.

If I'm not mistaken, i mean, correct me if i'm wrong, but the ,minimum cpu is AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.4 ghz.
I have AMD Athlon 64 X2 3.0ghz.
is that not higher? if not, please explain, I'm not a super expert on computer hardware.

It's funny really, my $2300 3 tear old HP laptop isnt up to specs to run the new GTAIV PC version.

And all the current people with relatively new systems can, but just realize that in 2 or 3 years your system will be outdated like mine is now.....

What then, do you plan on purchasing a new computer system every 2 or 3 years at $700 ( minimum) to $1500+ just so you can play the latest games that come on the market ?.

Good for you if your financially in that position, but there are far more of us that aren't....

My personal view here is these game company's should consider support for older systems, by this i mean allow the game/software to run but only with all the special effects turned down to a minimum.

I would be a happy camper if my GTAIV christmas present worked at least, even with reduced special effects.

I would know at least that my system is lacking but id still get some use out of the software.

As is GTAIV (PC) is a brick, and a waist of money, and just garantees i wont buy other new software releases from Rockstar games, cause now i know if my computer isnt relatively new it probably wont work....

PS Doesn't it seem more profitable to have a wider user base / of happy customers, then only the much smaller user base with newly gotten systems.... whos systems will also become outdated in a 1 to 3 years.....

That is a good point that you've made, but if Game companys didn't keep making software for better and better spec'd comps, that would mean there would be no need for hardware companys such as Nvidia, and Ati, would get to a point where there is no need for them to bring out new products for gaming use. And you can just upgrade components of your comp for a couple of hundred every few years rather than buying a whole new system. Although I CAN understand your frustration, I just don't think that you should stop buying rockstar's games just because of it. because all new games are requiring better systems, not just rockstar's ones

TinSoldier, on Friday January 2, 2009 10:17:47 PM

Good points, my reference to rockstar wasn't meant to mean only them but new game titles in general from all the latest software companys.

Also note that GTAIV was a christmas present, i wouldnt and dont buy the latest and greatest software titles as they come out for the very reason that i know my system is considered outdated already at 3 years....

Also note im specifically referring to a laptop ( in my case ) which isn't upgradeable...

Also even if i were using a desktop system that could be upgraded, i would still be unhappy having to upgrade on a almost continuous basis...

I believe my point is still valid, software companys sales would increase if older systems were supported, as well as newer systems.

I dont see it being a problem even if they distributed 2 versions of popular titles, one for high end systems and one for older lower end systems ( the older versions would really just be older titles that have a few perks or performance / maintenance upgrades to the software) just think how happy we all would be and how many sales the company could make....

My rant is over.... till next Christmas anyway....

Hrm I have been fighting with Rockstars so call suport for a few days now, I meet the min requirements (not going to list it here) But they keep saying it is my computer, I have Call to duty 4 with runs with no problem on my computer.

the game is installed, got the serial in it. But when I click it. split second of a black screen, Which I really can't call anything cause I don't see any info since it shuts down so fast. in the corner and thats it. he tried to say it was blocked, nope, Firewalls and anti softwere is not blocking the game. I even un-installed and re-installed, I sent him DxDiag file to prove my system was fine for the game. And yet nothing. Personally I think since I been hearing reports that this game does have a ton of PC bugs. or even maybe Bad CD's. just reading here I see complaint after complaint.

Problem with PC games like buying a used card. If you get a lemon you can't always take it back. Most stores refuse to accept refunds on PC games even only 4hrs old. well cause we can just make ISO's of them. some don't even give store credit. so your left with 55 USD (roughly) GTA IV the paper weight/dust collector.

I had a bigger problem with EA games, where I got Need for speed Undercover, I had the serial but when I installed it something about a registeration code?? well I figure that was my serial again. but no its a diffrent code. SO when I called there "So called suport" they about accused me of DLing the game, THOUGH I proved by sending a copy of the store receipt, a copy of the serial. It was a three week back and forth chess match with them. they wanted to know my name and adress. then after that they wanted to know my Serial, gave them that. then they wanted to know my DOB (which I didnt understand that) then I sent in a copy of the receipt from the store. All and all They told me "We can't find any reason why the registration code should not be in the box, and at this time we can not give you a new one, due to the change this can't be proven as a true claim" In other words they said I DLed the game and just are not going to help me at all.

Yay for Suport.

PC games are fun, but when something goes wrong dont ask for help cause they wont help you, Rockstar, Ea, whatever don't care what kind of computer if it can run it or not. everything is your fault and never theres. they dont care if you play it or not. ONLY that you buy it. once they get their money. who cares if you enjoy it. they will keep making games and at some point we will buy another of their games. or someone else will.

Ah well sorry for the rant I feel better at least ^^
Regards

Well , i got back 2 replys total. The first was a request for my DXDIAG report, i sent that in.... funny thing is though, they marked that message as "solved", hmmm, they didn't solve or even suggest anything..... it would seem they assume a reply from them is as good as solving the problem..... apparently.

Then this morning the last reply is "sorry your system doesent meet the minimum system specs..."

Thank god they told me that, i was totally in the dark....

but why does DXDIAG say theres nothing wrong with my video card and it has the november release of Directx installed, it seems to me my video card is a DX9 card unless MS / MS's software is the one in the wrong with it's DXDIAG software....

Im tending to believe that rockstar is just taking the general path rather than "this and this and this is wrong or needs upgrading"..

PS I can see that if my system was the minimum and didn't work i would really be pissed.... but that said,

Iv been playing with computers, and a former electronics hobbyist, since the days of the COCO2 ( color computer2 from radio shack... circa, 1980's).

Iv had more than my share of computer problems over the years, and know that a problem can be simple or far more complex, your system may have a setting that you adjusted ( graphics wise) that prevents a needed process from working and if you were to set the "defaults" or maybe the "best performance" settings it mite work....

I'm not suggesting that would fix it but who really knows their, or yours, computer and hardware system so well they can say " oh just do this.... that will fix it..", wont ever happen, even the software company's can only use the hardware manufactures specs and their own basic development system(s) to use as a basis for their software requirements ...

If you upgrade or adjust anything, or install some weird hardware and or software and driver, you can cause problems, im fairly sure software company's use basic out of the box systems to develop their software on..

Not like you or i, we always add software or upgrade hardware and / or change settings to "improve" our systems, and that is probably the basic problem right there....

isn't that the basic problem with windows.... use it and it will eventually get screwed up, that requires a re-install of the OS, thats a guarantee, dont just love windows and a never ending repair / upgrade / tweeking process...

I have a 2.8 ghz proc, an 8400gs ( I know sucks) and xp sp3 with a gig of ram (also sucks). Anyway, I plan to upgrade, so this doesn't bother me much. However, Someone nagged me asking me what I wanted for Christmas. So I checked the specs, met them (the specs), and asked for GTA IV. When I installed the game it plays, but you cannot see ANY background! So, you can't play. I don't think this is right because the specs aren't accurate. I'll play it eventually, so I don't care. However I feel for people who buy the game and never will. I agree with the two version idea. I can play Crysis and Crysis warhead on low settings totally smooth. They are more graphically detailed games than GTA IV, I would think. I feel it is ridiculous I can play those, two of the most detailed games ever made, but I cannot play a game made by ROCKSTAR!? Weird. Someone should stop this. Last year, did you think the games you were playing graphics were a $150 worse than the games now? I think not!

Smart ass ! don't think that bigger memory is faster ! because even an 3850 256 DDR3 is waaaay faster than an 8600GT with 1 GB DDR2 , anyway , the GTA 4 is really a game that needs a nice CPU , because the texture is soo big in size , it is required a fast CPU to play this game nicely , i myself have an 9400GT and i play smoothly ( 30 FPS higher , not bad huh ?) and that card only costs me $ 50 more or less , i forgot . but my CPU is an C2D E4500 running at 2.86 Ghz ( OC'ed ) . the game runs smooth , so don't brag that you can play with high fps if you have an 8800GT but your CPU is only a Pentium D 2.6 Ghz ,.
