Hello,
I own a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home premium(32 bit)
While downloading Skype, first of all I receive a Internet Explorer "security warning" ----

The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software.
Name: SkypeSetup.exe
Publisher: Unknown Publisher

Then after clicking the "Run" tab, I encountered another problem----

C:\Users\VibhuDubey\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Contact.IES\8MNJ9IVZ\SkypeSet[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application

And thus I cannot download Skype...

However I have downloaded other messengers like MSN , Yahoo etc.

However all my friends have been able to download Skype on Vista and they also have same laptop model...

PLS SUGGEST...

Configuration: Windows Vista Home premium(32 bit)

Internet Explorer 7.0

Hi,

Actually during downloading of a particular software Vista requires a genuine name of the software publisher for verification which is not provided on some of the versions of Skype....So, if we try to install any version of Skype then I hope that we all get a message that "UNVERIFIED PUBLISHER" or "PUBLISHER CAN NOT BE VERIFIED"....

So, according to me, please try to install Skype BETA 4.0 version only and it will hopefully work....Because only this version would be easily downloaded on Vista...

And see that the publisher name is clearly mentioned like Skype Technologies...

Please let me know if you get the success...

Hi Irfan and All,

I was encountering the same problem on my DELL INSPIRON 1525 with VISTA...Then I have applied a logic and have downloaded SKYPE 4.0 BETA version...And now its working fine...

I would suggest you all to download the same..

REASON--> If you download skype then the explorer wants to identify a downloadable file name which is absent in most versions of skype generally....

But when you will download SKYPE 4.0 BETA version then it would identify the file name as well as the extension...Thus explorer and your antivirus software will not prevent/block it from downloading...

I hope that this will serve your purpose...

Thanks,

You should be able to download any version of Skype if you change to the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Its nothing to do with the browser....Its all about the version of Skype...Also, antivirus affects it to a great extent...Because, it treats the version as unidentified publisher due to the reason that no name was provided earlier on their file...

But now Skype team has resolved this issue..
Thanks
