Hey there,
I locked some files up using an encrypting software and now asking me to get the full version. I tried hard to remove the software in the program files but this doesn’t work neither. Any idea how can I get back the data I put on it please?

Configuration: Windows Vista
Firefox 3.0.3

Download Revo Installer (Freeware)
http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Redownload (From Internet, or from disk) the Program/Application you tried to uninstall. Try to get same version you previously installed.

Intall Revo.

Reinstall the Software you are trying to remove.

Finish full install, and restart, if needed, to finish install.

Open Revo Uninstaller.

Locate the Program you are trying to delete.

Double-Click (Or Right-Click UnInstall)

Choose the highest level of uninstall

Press to continue.

The Windows Uninstaller pops up in a seperate window on top of Revo.

Use the Windows uninstaller, and follow the normal chain of events, to uninstall, HOWEVER, WITH ONE VERY IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE. READ NEXT LINE BEFORE PRESSING OK>>>>>>>>>>>>

If There is a Check/Tick Box saying "Restart Windows to Finish Windows", UNCHECK THAT BOX, As You Do Not Want Windows to Restart UNTIL Revo Does It's Magic.

Ensure any "Restart" Button is NOT Pressed.

Press OK to Finish Built In Windows UnInstall.

Windows Uninstaller Closes, and you can See Revo, again.

Press Next.

Revo Scans For Some Files associated with the uninstalled application. Takes a minute, maybe.

A list appears.

Choose "Select All" once to select.

Choose Delete, followed by OK.

Press Next, again.

More Files appear.

Choose "Select All" Again.

Select Delete, followed by OK, again.

Press Next.

Press OK to finish.

Close Revo.

If there was a "Restart Now" at the end of the earlier "Windows uninstall", and you un checked it, you will need to restart the Computer.

If does not work, try find other versions of the same application, and repeat, until you find the correct version.

I had a similar issue, installing Kaspersky, as it did a scan and found 2 programs still installed, that were not showing in addremove programs.

One of the two applications, required me to redownload a few versions, to get the version that matched the semiuninstalled version.

Good Luck :-)

I don't know how to get your Data Back.

But, If you have a few small files, folders, you cant remove, like, if you just wan't to delete the data, try use the following Freeware:

Unlockert Assistant
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Right-Clicking a file gives you the opportunity to delete rename files and folders that normally say you cannot access.

Some folders, after renaming, and restarting windows, allowed me to access that folder, but no access to open folders and files within that folder, but rightclicking them and renaming and restarting took me back up the file tree.

The folder I was after deleting wes too big, and on an external disk, so I formatted it instead. Quicker for Me.

But if your Folders and Files, that wont delete, are not that big, use Unlocker Assistant.

Be Careful, as I could imagine it could delete/rename system files & Files in use & other peoples User Data, and that could be dangerous.

Sometimes, it takes a while to delete bigger items, and you might be unsure if it is working or not, then, a while later a folder disapears.

Files are very easy, and folders easy, if not much in them, or they can take a while.

Good Luck :-)

Hey mate,

I'm not 100% sure on how to get rid of this program, but an idea may to be to do a system restore. This will restore your computer back to an earlier date before this problem occurred. To locate System Restore, click 'Start' 'All Programs' 'Accessories' and 'System Tools' and you will find System Restore within that menu. As i said before, not sure if this will work, but its just a helping suggestion :P.

Cheers.
Chris

OK,
so let's look at it step-by-step: you installed an encryption software on your computer; you encrypted some data using the software; now, when you are trying to decrypt the data (reverse the data encryption), it asks you to update to the full version.
If my understanding of the situation is correct, here is what most likely happened:
1. when you encrypted your data using the software, the software had to use (or generate) an encryption key. Data encryption is scrambling of data based on an algorithm using a key. there are number of algorithms that is widely used such as AES, Blowfish, etc.
2. in order to decrypt the data you need to have at minimum 2 things: know the algorithm that was used, have the encryption key that was used to encrypt the data. without it (depending on the length of the encryption key), it is virtually impossible to get the data back
3. Uninstalling the software will not help, because your data is now in unreadable state. the software is just a tool to apply the algorithm and the key to reverse the encryption.
4. restoring your computer to previous date will not do the trick for the same reason as above. it will uninstall the software, but your files will remain in the encrypted state (or possibly get deleted by the uninstall, if the files are located under the software folder).

So, here are your options:
1. if you have the key and know the algorithm that was used, you can theoretically use another data encryption program to decrypt the files
2. if you don't, you data is a hostage of the software and it is your decision to upgrade to the full version to get it back.

I personally would be very careful with an encryption software vendor that holds your data hostage (if that is what happened). At work, we are using a company that provides secure data storage products and allows users to generate their own encryption keys.

Let me know how you made out,
stephon
