Ares won't connect can you help meSolved/Closed

Question

Hello, I have Ares 2.0.8,3029 and it won't connect. It keeps on saying "connecting" for hours. But does not connect! I don't know what to do! I want to connect my internet so I can download music online. Can you please help me?

System Configuration: Windows XP Safari 525.21

Hey,

I had the same problem but if you go into the Control Panel and click on Transfer, there is a box that asks for the port which should be used. Delete that number, then close ares down. Then reload ares and a different port number would be found. Then ares will start working.

I'm having that same exact problem as well. It was working a few weeks ago and now it stopped. It says connecting at the top and never moves. I've re-installed it multiple times and my firewall has been disabled and my anti virus uninstalled.

 The strange this I have two different OS on my laptop, Windows XP PRO and Windows Vista Business and Ares wont work on EITHER of them.

I also have Ares on 2 diff operating systems and as of the 16th of October neither of them will connect. Nothing has changed with either system. It just wont connect. Is there an update out there. I presentyly have the lates version

iÂ´ve just downloaded the latest version of ares.  It is ares destiny vista but it dosnÂ´t connect either I donÂ´t know why. But the latest version is not free so ares is not free anymore so I guess that it wonÂ´t connect unless we pay.

I highly doubt its a ISP problem. A friend of mine uses ARES and we are both on the same network. He gets connected in a matter of seconds when he opens ARES.

hello...
i've had the same problem for a few days.....
now that I have my computer working I tried again but it wouldn't connect again...
so I tried this....
1.- open ARES and wait a moment....
2.- after it says connecting for a little while go to control panel and disconnect....
3.- wait about 30 sec and connect again
after doing this it sholud connect and work right... if not just do 2 and 3 a couple more times...

hi, I have the same problem too. I have windows vista and it just keeps saying connecting but never connects. everyone keeps giving the advice of checking the exceptions on each of your firewalls which I have done, and made exceptions for ares. I have even turned them all off to see if it wors still with no luc k which means it cannot be a firewall problem... is it anything to do with the ports im sharing through... any help would be appreciated thanks

I had the same problem.   I tried for ages, downloading Ares again, changing things.   I finally gave up and downloaded LimeWire.   That works OK.   I did like Ares, but it was not worth the hassle to me.

I think I know what is the problem.

My desktop is connected with DSL and Ares is working fine there but when I installed it on my laptop which is connected to internet with Wi Fi it dont work. I tried it on 3 different wi fi computers but it wasnt waorking, then I pluged my laptop with DSL then it start working.... Try to do that il will work

Yes,I too have had nothing but trouble trying to get Ares to connect.I've left it running for DAYS before,and still nothing.I have tried all of the newer version also.
The ONLY version that worked for me(windows XP with SP3) WAS and IS version 2.
I have tried SO many fixes and tricks,to no avail.
Get version 2 that is post here,and use that one.
And btw...thanks to Rayados for that info.
I used to have the setup for version 2,but my system crashed the other day,so I had to buy a new HD and start over.
Also...I too am on a wireless laptop,and Ares,V. 2 is connected and working right now.

Hi all!  Yesterday i've formatted my pc.I was using Ares destiny since 2 yrs now.Everytime I format my pc I note the incoming port. But this time I forgot to note the incoming port so I had big trouble connecting to Ares.So I was searching for solution then came across this site.I've tried all sites but this site is fantastic.I downloaded new ares from this site( https://aresgalaxy.io/  and installed it.Gwallaaaa to my surprise it instantly connected.

what you have to do is uninstall Ares first then download the most current version.  Then make the xp account you want install ares on ADMINISTRATOR account. Then while you upgraded that account, install Ares and run it.  After Ares works you can go back and downgrade account to LIMITED. 

It took me a while to figure that one out.  Have Fun!

Hi guys,

I had ares on my PC before, got a virus and had to have my computer wiped and restored. I re-downloaded ares and for some reason wouldnt connect.  I got it to work so I dont know if this will help anyone.  If you have Nortons 360 on your PC, click on the icon, it gives you 4 options, click on PC security and then manage firewall, take the tick out of the 1st box so there is no firewall (for 15 mins if the options pops up).  If you have Mcfee on your Pc, click ont he icon, click on Internet and network, click on cunfigure, go to the 2nd box and make sure the option off is selected (for 15 mins if the options pops up). Close it all down and open ares, it will now connect and when the firewall comes back on in the 15 minutes you will still be able to use it

I have the same thing, Ares 2.1.1, and I keep getting "connecting" but it wont connect. Not one of the replies on this site has worked for me. I am pulling my hair out here. It worked fine last week, now it dont. What can I do?

I tried everything listed. Uninstalling and reinstalling, disconnecting and reconnecting, removing all default connection options, all of it. The only thing that worked for me was going into the control panel, clicking on the 'transfer' tab, finding the box with the port number, deleting that number, closing Ares and restarting. Good luck, this is the only thing that worked for me.

hey guys I have ares 2.1.1 I dont remember what other one I had when it didnt work but when I downloaded this one it wouldnt work either and I went to my firewall options and put this ares as an exception. I would also recomend downloading the newest version of Ares at https://aresgalaxy.io/ . To find your firewall go to start/control panel/ windows firewall. Also for you guys worried about losing songs is move your library from your default folder and it wont be removed when you uninstall old one and when you download new ares go to control panel then transfer and change folder into the folder u moved your library into

the only way the latest version of ares connects on my pc is when I delete the port number it found by itself.the moment I delete that,it goes online.it now seems to be a manual override all the time.any suggestions?

Well I've tried everything and I got fed up so I decided to try frostwire. It didn't connect either but unlike ares there was a message saying it detected a firewall. I let it through my windows firewall but its still saying theres a firewall so I just need to find that firewall (i didnt even know about it...)

I had the same problem, tried everything that everyone said and it still didn't work. Finally, when I was browsing for a different filesharing program, I ran into an about.com page which redirected me here http://freewarecentral.net/ares-211/?gclid=CLuZ64nP2JsCFSgYa­godElbxAA 
this is ares 2.1, the only difference between this one and earlier versions is the internet browser. When you download it, it will come up as something else (because it is bundled with crap). Just let it finish downloading, and then uninstall the program that was bundled with it. It should connect immediately.

I've been having the same problem. I've been using Ares for a few years now, and just recently (about a week ago), it decided it no longer wanted to connect. I did just recently jump from XP to Vista (mandatory jump due to new motherboard's limitations), but even under Vista, it handled just fine over the past few months I've had the new system. I've tried adjusting my firewall settings, my router settings, opening ports, making exceptions, and still nothing... I even tried Ares Vista's trial, but that didn't work either. Over the past week, I've tried several other p2p programs, but none of them worked as well as Ares used to. After reading some more posts similar to this, I decided to give Ares Vista one more shot. I just installed it about 15 minutes ago, and this time around, after about two minutes of the "connecting..." status, a pop-up asked me if I wanted to install a new connection file. Never having seen this before, I clicked yes, and Ares Vista instantly connected. Not having uninstalled Ares Galaxy yet (even though I know I'm supposed to before installing Ares Vista), I got curious. So, I closed Ares Vista, opened Ares Galaxy, and viola, instant "online" status. So, this very long winded response is me thinking that Ares is now trying to FORCE a membership on their open source program by limiting connection availability via software restriction. I know this isn't a "fix" to the problem, but hopefully it's a neat work around till someone else comes up with something more practical.

Hi, had same problem when I reloaded windows os,just says connecting and thats all,but as luck would have it. I had my shared folder on a second drive,not on the default ares folder I do this to have more space for my downloads.What happens is as soon as I changed folder from ares default to my second drive,which of course I named ares shared folder,restarted ares and as soon as it started loading my downloads ares connected online,tried this with my mates pc,taking my drive to his pc,dragging and dropping into his newly created ares shared folder,again not ares default,and ares connected onlline,only tried this the two times,hope it works for you.


I have a portable so I d/c`ed ares went to my portable hd and created a ` my sharing folder` folder, went to ares changed the default dir to h/my sharing folder, tried to connect again and it connected within 3 seconds. the only thing that worked. I am using 2.1.1. or something like that, the latest one anyway

I have a similar problem on my computer, but with one slight difference: Ares will work on ONE user account, the account that was active when it was originally installed. First it was my sister's account, wouldn't work on any others, then we had our computer's hard drive wiped, and it was installed through my account, and now I am the only one who can connect. Re-installing the program with another account didn't change anything, either. I've checked all the settings in the different accounts, but as far as I can see, there are no differences, just that in one account it works, in another it inexplicable doesn't.

If your user account is not the one that had installed ares on your computer for the first time, try borrowing the user account that did. Might work, might not, I have no idea.

open ares, click on 'control panel' at the top,click on transfer and at the bottom click on 'restore to default', then click 'bit torrent' and click on 'restore to default', the application must have an error... anyway goodluck

Follow this advice n your ares will be work soon :

1st don't uninstall your older ares
2nd Download new ares from ares.net
3rd instal new ares
4th open new ares n wait a second till it go online(tough it's online but you cant download cz it needs activation code)
5th open your older ares n its already have a new looks
6th search a file that you want to download it
7th download it n your older ares works
8th enjoy it  ^_^

I think i've finally figured it out how to make Ares works, again! Here's what to do: Go to control panel, tap to Network, down where the Proxy box is located, there's should be options on which type of proxy options (Don't use proxy/Use Sock4 proxy/Use Sock5 proxy) you'd like to set it in. Test each proxy out. While you're testing each proxy one at a time press the 'Check connection' button. You should able to get Ares working somewhere between the line of testing! It worked for me! Good Luck!

Uninstall Ares complete, delete all you previous music files because they contain traces of ares not working. After complete deleting your music files, re install ares 2008, and it should work perfectly!

This one works for me:

you need to allow Ares into the exception of your Firewall.
I use Windows Firewall. 

Please note that you must checked on the option "File and Printer Sharing"

I tried all the things you guys said and the only one that worked was this:
I tried it with ares 2.0.9 and I have a Vista
1)I uninstalled it using windows control panel
2)Downloaded this version http://www.ares.net/ - installed it - searched for a music file (or whatever you want)
*it won't let you to download files,saying you need activation code!
3)while the new version was on I installed my old version again (the 2.0.9 one)
4)when it started it had a whole new look(which is good cuz I was kinda tired of the old look eyk)
5)search for the file you want to download .....
*now I have a little problem here myself:it still says CONNECTING but I just downloaded a video file and it worked for me I hope it'll work for you too!

yeah it works again! I formatted yesterday and I installed ares and it didn't work same problem as you! first I thought damn they shut this program down but I told my friend hey does your ares still work and he said yes so I then thought it was a port thing! nope I did everything this site told me! disable auto connection and I always never load on start up! and still didn't work until I changed the Internet home URL and it connected! thanks guys I was gonna be pist if this didn't work :-p

I just found the solution. I use Windows XP SP1 and I've been using Ares 1.9.1 but a week ago stopped working (connecting to be more exact). I just went to www.ares.net I downloaded the new Ares and name it AresNew for a new folder. I opened this new Ares and it worked! After that I just uninstalled it and opened my old Ares and now it connects! Don't use the new Ares, just download it, connect it, then get rid of it 'cause you have to pay.

I HAVE THE ANSWER......................I HAVE THE ANSWER............I HAVE THE ANSWER..................I have the answer why Ares wont connect...After 3 long long   loooong days of trying and researching...and pulling my hair out......I finally found why Ares is such a funny program..And why its so stubbon to connect...The Answer is because when you install it and try and use it ...it wont connect if you have any other downloading program installed on youre comp...when you download Ares and install it..part of the installation is a search for any other downloading programs..peer to peer or what ever you like to call it...It has to be the ONLY peer 2 peer program you are installing and have on youre comp........."a peer to peer program is just a downloading program..for those who dont know what Peer to Peer is"........So You have 2 UNinstall any of youre other downloading programs..then install Ares.....It should pritty much start downloading straight away after a instalation.....After then you can Reinstall all your other peer to peer programs..FrostWire..Donky...LimeWire...ShareBear..what ever takes youre fancy................I can get some sleep now...Plz comment on my hard work...I would love to hear from anyone whose this helps.....


ALSO.......The New version of Ares 2.2.7.doesnt work...........well it works....But not proply....and its the first of the Ares versions that limits what you download..it also has a slower download rate............Ares ver 2.0.7....is the last version that just lets you get on with youre downloads.....Its still there to download and still works...But for how much longer.....

If the ares says connecting I got the same problem with me no worry you just check the virus definition tool there I got here kaspersky virus , I just click the setting button of the right top corner and than you will get the threat and exclusion in that u just click add button browse the ares in the desktop and add that , in few seconds you will get connected enjoy

you have to go on to control panel pick a nick name set up your account and go on stuff like general transfer chat network an then scan and then just finish the scan don't tick any and then just restart your computer after that connect and disconnect your nickname a few more times and then it should work just fine

1. Go to Control Panel/Transfer/Accept incomming connections on port.
2. Change the port to another one.
3. Disconnect
4. Reconnect.
Wait a few seconds. If that doesnt work, try again.
Last tip?. Make sure that you have choose a port bigger than 40000.

i just dowloaded version 2.1.5.3039 (its free) and saved it as ares2 through the installation process. did not uninstall the old version (2.0.8,3029 ). and after I set it up it just overwrote my old version and I was online again downloading songs .... if it dosent say online and you still get music popping up when you search and it says connecting then that dosent matter .... I found in the past yrs it eventually stops saying online but still works fine as long as the searches work and your downloading music.

Try checking your antivirus program.  Mine is Avast Antivirus and when I checked "Real-Time Shields" category, there is a P2P Shield.  I disabled the shield and Ares connected!!! You should give it a try.
