No sound on vlc player

Hi everybody,
I cannot hear anything from my pc. Whenever I will try to play a music from vlc player it will tell me that there isn’t any sound device connected to the pc and that I have to check it. I went in the control panel and selected the sound and device management but yet it would not open. I have tried almost everything can anyone help me please?

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Check in the device manager if your sound driver is actually installed or does not have the eroor code 10 "this device cannot start" error

it is most likely that the driver has become corrupt and requires a reinstall ofthe sound device
