Msn on aspire one... !?

Hello,
Was just wandering.. does ANYONE have ANY idea about how I can download preferably windows live messenger, but if not then I guess the 8.5 version would do but I really don't get on t=with the version of msn I have on here atm. If anyone knows anything about how to download it and actually get it working... or if its even compatible with this model then PLEASE let me know.

Hey,
I have the aspire acer one notebook, my msn isnt working at all so i was wondering how you got it on there at all ? everytime i download it , it stays in the downloads file but wont open or load after that and i cant use the messenger on the home page as its run by luinx, Id like to use my webcam and start making video calls but cant do this untill i get the msn!? please help?? x

I have exactly the same problem, i brought my acer aspire one today, because i could then have one for msn and one for college work.. but everytime i tried signing in to my msn account it said theres an error, and some other stuff.. none of the buttons worked meaning the "ignore" "sign in" or "modify account" for obvious reasons? so i tried downloading windows live messenger 7.5 but it does exactly the same by staying in the downloads section, i'm so thick when it comes to stuff like this, could someone help me? surely someones figured out the problem? lol

You just need to keep on updating from your Live Update, and one of the things updating should help your protocol support the Messenger. Don't bother downloading messenger 7.5 or any of the other ones, you have the messenger.

Alice is right.
you need to update it and you cant download msn because "Aspire One" models arn't windows vista or any other version of windows.
You need to keep pressing live update on your download on the settings found in the bottom right hand corner.
it will eather come up with a box saying nothing has been found, if so just press retry.
or on the other hand a box will come up stating ALL of the updates you can have. these are called "patches"
just press accept and it will take about 5-10 minutes to download.
then the messenger that is built in will work so no need for windows live.
all of this works because i have wrote it step by step whilst sorting it out for my little sister.
Hope you will be just as satisfied with it as i am and hope this was good help to get your "aspire one" working.

i used to have windows live messenger on my old computer , but then i got a laptop ;)
but i had the problem you had with ur sister .
but can you still put the same account you had in from your windows live messenger in ?
orr do you have to have the server one ?

Thanks for you advice got my daughters msn working.
But do u know how I can get the itunes to work as well. she loves her music and has loads downloaded on our main pc but it is all in itunes. I don't want to have to buy the cd when we have them in itunes already. any ideas thanks

Hey i see what you are saying to do but what do you do when it say Could not connect to the update server. Please
check your network environment as follows:
1. Check if the network cable is properly inserted.
2. Check your network status.

I couldnt get my messenger on the acer working at first but on settings at the bottom of the main screen, there is an icon sayin live updates you have to download them all till it finishes it can take a bit of time but once it has finished you should be able to sign in to your messenger hope it helps

Hi i got an aspire one last christmas and i had the same problem. I looked on the web to find out how to get msn and the quickest way is to go into settings (or prefrances) and click on live update.it will say welcome and stuff the u click update. if it says there are no update available on you comp (or something like that) then u need to get a new laptop but if it comes up with a list scroll down and make sure every box is ticked and click update now.
if your connected to the internet then leave you pc open and don't touch it for about 2 hours or so untill it has finished(it will come on screen) then restart your aspire one and click on messenger in connect section and click add account. when u have added your account and password tick the box next to your msn addie and click sign in and your done.

I don`t know about your Acer Aspire One`s guys but mine needs more than 5-10 mins to download the patches...it takes hours!!! Why? I used to have the same problem on my other laptop when used Mozzilla Firefox instead of internet explorer. Anyone knows why?

Mine took hours too dont worry..
but i have another problem.. i updated everything using live update
but now my messenger won't open, BUT before the live update i did remove something from run/add programs to do with messenger? could anyone look up the name of what it says when you type 'messenger' in the programs you already have, so i can restore the right thing back then i can see if it works.

Acer aspire one is a linux and msn is a windows program and needs windows to run. but you can download pidgin (if thats how you spell it) but msn will not open as their is nothin to support it.

There is already a messenger on there, and it has worked for people once they updated live, but because i accidently deleted something to do with messenger it wont open at all.

I was hoping someone would know what the name of the messenger was when you look on run/add programs in the section of programs you already have.

i had an acer aspier 1 for christmas. and i've got the same problem, whenever i sign in on messenger it says sign in, modify account, ignore
but whatever i press it still wont work, i'm hoping one of you could help me because i would really like to use msn on it.

Hey its honey again,
ive tried everything everyones mentioned on here, the live update in the settings takes around 24hours i kept it on all night and connection was lost so i had to start again, ive tried downloading pidgin, and nothing happens when it comes up with that window saying ' open ' or ' download', im now thinking about taking this back and trading for a windows xp notebook instead as there seems to be no answers. also, does anyone know why i was given a recovery disc when i have no hard drive to put it into? am i ment to save it onto a memory stick ? damn need a computer nerd :P

I've got the problem too, ive read many forums on the internet about the acer aspire one, and i got told that running the live update would make it work, but i did this.. and now messenger wont even open, but it probably doesnt help that i deleted something to do with messenger from add/run programs >.<
but yeah, there must be someway it can work otherwise it wouldnt be put on there and some people wouldnt say it has worked for them, ive also heard that after you run the live update it will work after 3 days.. :S but that might not be true.

Would it be possible if someone went into there add/run programs then in the 'search' engine and then click the point of the programs you already have then type in 'messenger' then could someone tell me what option comes up? so i could add the program back in to see if it now works for me?

If you could i would be extremely grateful.

So did i and yes i think im a bit of a comp nerd the recovery disk is there to recover the pc ofcouse but as there is no disk port you can bye a disk drive witch connects to the aspire one or download to memory stick but it dont work. to buy a disk drive go on e-bay found it a lot cheaper new 1 can cost £140 or e-bay cos £30-£80 much diferance.

You are totally right!! Why would they send such a cd with it when you can't even put it in the computer?!
and do you know how you get that msn messenger to your computer? can you just download the linux-version of MSN?

Oh and no you cant have the problem msn, because the proper msn can only be run on xp and vista and on tha acer aspire one its a linux, i think thats what its called. And it isnt compatable with the proper msn..

On Your Aspire One If you are run by linux your should no that you don't have a disk drive and you cant have windows XP or windows programs so if you are trying to download anything like i tunes it shouldn't work x

Well YOu Need To Get All Of Your Songs On A Memory Stick <And Copy Them Into Your Music File. The Aspire One Has Its Own Music Player That Is Confusing But Works Well. If You Read The Instructions It Tell You How To Operate The Music Player Approprietly So You Dont Cause Any Damage.

Iv Also Looked ON The Add/Runn Page But I Actuly Have NO Idea What You Want Me To Look For. Sorry x

But Along With The Aspire 1 You Get a Cd And Boklet That Will Restore All Settings That You Have Deleted. Alll YOu Need Is A Disk Drive :S x

You cannot have msn(windows live messenger) on the aspire one(mini-laptop) , because the laptop is not run by windows , its run by Linex

Hey me again,
my messenger keeps playing up, when i log in after a couple of minuites a window pops up and says-'Invalid certificate chain The certificate chain presented for contacts.msn.com is not valid.'
and all thats there to click is ok or x,
so all my contacts dont show up and the messenger symbol shows im offline, its really annoying me now.
could someone help me please?

Ok to get msn working you need to go accounts>account settings>edit>look at general and make sure "use a Windows Messenger compatible service" is checked. if it isnt and you cant jus tick the box (because the whole thing has gone kinda grey) remove that account and just add it again making sure to check the box this time. this will get rid of the invalid certificate.msn or w.e the msg is. as for itunes it will only work if they are in the mp3 format but unfortunately most itunes songs are in the Mpeg4 or m4a format thers probably a programm that some guy has made to convert them to mp3 but i dont no about it a quick google might work.

wen checking the box for messenger it comes up with a warning i think, just click ok it simply means that things lyk webcam might not work and microphones but better to hhave that than no msn eh? hope that helped ask me for anymre qus.

but now my webcam, nudges 7 calls are grey and wont let me use them, this happend before but then it worked again. i'm getting so angry with this whole messenger on my laptop now, something's always wrong with it ):

This happens to me. sometimes i just have to go on ebuddy.com or messengerfx.com , there just live chat rooms. and then try the proper msn again. sometimes works. depends LOL. also, could someone please tell me how to download itunes?

Try to install it then via PlayOnLinux ,i`m sure will work for you because in zinovsky howtos the tutorial is described step by step with the screenshots :

Hello.
You cant download on this laptop. You will have to have a speacial program for it to download other things i think.
But if you have any trouble with the msn you have on there atm, Just ask me. and i will be glad to help you.

Hello Chloe.
Well at the bottom right hand corner.. there should be a setings button....
- Click on the settings button
- You will see a Live Update on the bottom row, second one. Click on that.
- And then click on update. It will take a while
- Some of them will fail. Not to worry. You just have to do the update again.
- At first there is loads to update. But when some fail. And you next update. It will update them some of them will the fil again. and so on. But then, you will know when its ll been done :D

Hi everyone we hasve three aspire ones in our house but not one of them will connect to msn but they used to.I have done all updates which fixed problem for a short time but now when i click messenger it does nothing PLEASE HELP.

Have done all updates that are on list but when i click messenger icon it does nothing my kids are goin mad cuz this was main reason for us buying them in the 1st place has any1 got any other suggestions for me

All i can think of, is just keep doing and doing the updates until the messenger works.
and if they want to go on msn so badly, use.. www.ebuddy.com its an online messenger basically. sorry, thats all i can say. hope it helps.

Itunes wont work because it only runs on debian based linuxes, windows and mac, maybe try something like banshee? it is exactly the same and plays all the audio files
