Wireless Switch Problem

Hello,
I just recently put a new power jack in my laptop.
Everything worked fine except for now my wireless does not work.
I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop. I keep getting an error that says the radio is disabled.
I try to enable it and it does not save the setting. It reverts back to disabled.
The FN - F2 keys do not turn the wireless on. It does nothing.
The wireless switch on the side seems to be very loose and the LED does not light up.
I've went into the wireless utility to enable it and I still get the error that says it is disabled.
It is recognized in my device manager and it says it is working properly.

I'm game for taking the whole thing apart again....I just don't know what to do from this point.

Any guesses would be great.
I don't have the money to send it back to Dell and, of course, the warranty has expired.

Thanks,
Kimberly

Looks like you unplugged something or broke something or dropped solder on the motherboard.

I had the same problem with a Sony Vaio. It seems one of the updates put entries in my registry to start a Vaio Lan Manager with Windows.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Check these keys to see if any kind of a 3rd party Lan Manager is running. If so, delete the entries and reboot.

Sorry about the lateness of my answer, but I just had the problem.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I have exactly the same problem with my Sony Vaio and I have no idea to fix it. Sorry but what do you mean by entering the keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersionÃ‚\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ã‚Run

Can you please, please send me the details on how to do this?

thanks a lot.

Hey! I had the same problem for a while, but then magically i had an epiphany after searching for 40000 hours on how to fix the LAN switch. On the bottom right hand side of the screen there is a green and purple arrow facing opposite directions, double click it. (It's hard to remember everything) I think it will bring up a picture with a bunch of boxes on the left side, click the wireless network one. TA-DAAAAAA!!! If you can figure out how to connect my Vaio (with Windows Vista) to a nonbroadcasting wireless network with WEP security (i have all the codes) I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER

I have the
Dell Latitude 630 and under Device Manager it should the intel proset(R) was working correctly, however the wireless just quit working. Uploaded drivers and still nothing and tried the FN + F2 and it doesnt seem to do anything. Then after reading about the switch on the side I switched it on and it started connecting. I guess one of the kids must have turned it off while playing with it. Thanks guys, and Dell I personally would like to kick you guys in the balls. Come on, dont you think you should mention that somewhere on a pop up on how important the switch is on the side for wireless.

Recently I tried everything to get the wireless to work. My wireless button turned red and everything else is fine. I got some tech support on the phone, and it turned out the wireless card of the switch is not working, so it has to be fixed.
Buy the card and repair it. Relogin to the wireless connection network, and hopefully it works.
Even worse, I can't remember my password for the wireless Internet. So I can't use Internet wireless, but has to use the cable. :(

Hey, your problem is solved!
Just plug the ethernet cable supplied with your router and load up your router admin page via explorer, go to your security settings and i'm sure u'll manage to see your password
Good luck !!

Somehow FN + F2 does not work on mine. However Ctrl + F2 does work. Try that to turn your wireless on and off.

I'm sure that you've fixed it by now, but my Lenovo 300 N200 has a wireless switch on the front of the computer, under the mouse pad ... I had the same problem (couldn't find anything about a wireless switch in the Lenovo help ... lot's of help!) ... the switch had been flipped off while my wife was sitting talking on the phone and went from having a connection to not having a connection ...

... everything works again!

Hi, I've had the same issue with my Sony Vaio. After windows does an update the wireless is no longer detected, and yes the switch on the front set to on before you ask. The only thing that works for me is to do a system restore. Not sure how this affects the windows updates. Cheers

Hey, I had this problem on my acer aspire 3680. I think the radio got disabled when my roommate unplugged my ac adapter and the battery drained while the laptop was still on. The only thing that worked for me was to update/reflash my BIOS. It fixed the problem right away, so it may work for others as well.

I have found that most laptops have both a hardware switch and a software switch for wireless. On a Vaio I was asked to troubleshoot, the software switch was off. The control is usually accessed by keystroke or in my case, an icon in the System Tray on the Taskbar (lower right hand corner of your screen). The control for the Sony is not very noticable. Took a few minutes to uncover. I'm thinking the previous suggestions about deleted registry keys would also work because they delete the Sony software in favor of Windows management software.

Frustrated, on Oct 26, 2009 9:45:50 pm GMT

Hey guys...

I have a Vaio FJ58GP, and having the same issues with the wireless! I've been reading everyone's comments but still trying to figure out a solution. any help will be much appreciated.

the issue is my laptop isn't picking up any networks. the h'ware switch in front of the machine is switched on, tried everything from uninstall to reinstall software/drivers, still no go. when I connect my router/modem with an Ethernet cable, I am able to connect to the network.

so the question is, is there anything I can do before buying a new wireless card? I looked in the BIOS but couldn't find any wireless on/off switch, unless I am looking in the wrong place.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Dell Latitude Laptop and I have the same problem. I took it to the store where I bought it for a new battery and since then, the wireless networks stopped appearing and so I don't have wireless internet connection. In the Wireless Network connection window there are "no wireless networks in range" and it says "make sure the wireless connection is on" but I don't know where that is....many of the comments that I've read don't help me at all...there is an "i" button in the top center of the laptop...is that it?
HELP!!!
