Hello,
Need help with some critical data recovery from my SD Card. I use an SD card in my phone to store tons of personal data (passwords, a/c numbers etc). Today suddenly the SD card has stopped functioning. When i put the card in the phone, the phone does not read (recognize?) the card at all. It is like the card is not there at all.

Next i tried the SD slot in my Sony Vaio. The reader has a solid green light for abt 5 secs and then light turns off. The windows explorer does not recognize the card in the drive.

Next i tired a Multi-card reader connected via USB. When i place another card (CF Card) in CF card slot, the reader works just fine for both read and write. Next when i inserted the problematic SD card in the SD slot, the entire card reader becomes "unrecognized". In windows explorer none of the drive letter are displayed, including the CF card slot/Drive.

Please help. i some how need to atleast get the data off the SD card.

Thanks in advance.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

Hi, don't be panic. Searching on the internet, you will find many data recovery software, which will help restore your lost data after format from hard disk, SD card, USB drive, etc. Only if your hard disk/SD card were not overwritten, the lost data will come back to you. you can know more here: http://www.easeus.com/resource/sd-card-format-recovery.htm

Unfortunately i have had to move on. The SD card seems to have gone "bad" and none of the devices i tried (PC, card reader, phone, camera) will recognize it. I still have the card and still need the data, so still hoping....

Trust me not everyone has a bad memory card I bought 3 just to prove this is a WINDOWS issue! and yes 1 Gig cards do seem to work for me, I have an older PC with the older USB 1.1(2) and a new Gaming PC with USB 2.0 and I bought two 4G Micro Cards for my daughters NDS Lite, and neither PC will recognize the SD Cards tried with using them in Camera, without adapter, using cell phone and they are able to format in cell and camera but when on either PC it wants me to insert a disk when I plug them into the USB ports, this is obviously a software issue and also kinda a skrew you issue with the japananese Matsuaki or whatever the name of the patent pending idiot that made these memory mass media storage cards, they should have been forced to stick to ONE standard and also Microsoft should have the millions of people having this same issue bring up a class action suit against them for not adding this into there SP3 update for Windows XP and an Update for Vista, we know how they blew it with compatability issues with VIsta when it first came out but the new stanard for SD memory that changed in 2006 should have also been added to our OS software on our PC's. I see another accessory requirment down the road for these tiny mass media cards and thats a universal compatable mass media storage reader and writer for 199.99 US sold by Microsoft???? It's gonna be all about money when they make such a device. I guess in the mean time my daughter will have to be happy with the 1G memory card on her NDS.

Internet is loaded with this same question but seems to me not one person has the right answer and no two people are having the same issue due to different OS's, and PC's.

I have had some problems with my SD card when I broke my phone and had to get a new one. It was the same kind of phone, but when I put the unharmed SD card from my previous phone into the new phone, it did not read the SD card. What did I do wrong? By the way, I have the Pantech Matrix.

Agreed. These can't all be faulty disks. There is a software issue here...and far too many people are experiencing similar issues for this to be ignored. Microsoft, your response, please...

Yes I am sure that Microsoft's software is broken, and not just a batch of SD cards. That's why millions of other SD cards work perfectly every time in Windows...

I am having the same problem with an SD card used in my camera. It had many pictures from a weekend vacation, and seemed fine but all of a sudden one time I turned on the camera to look at the pictures and it said "No Image". When I tried to take pictures using the card, it said the memory card was full . . . but still said "No Image" when trying to view the pictures on the camera. My computer doesn't register the card at all when putting it in my media card reader or hooking up the camera to the computer.
This is not a Windows or any other OS issue. It is with the card itself. I can't remember right now what brand the card is, but whatever it is, I won't be buying that brand any more.

1. I am not a moron, because if I was, I would run around posting replies such as yours

2. If it is an OS problem with Vista, and works fine with XP, then why is it not registering on my camera or my work computer running XP?

3. Maybe, just maybe, you're not having the same issue that I and others are having

Well, I have a new Polaroid SD HC 8GB memory card for my camera. I used the card in my camera and it works just fine, but now I am trying to upload the pictures to my MAC and the memory card is not recognized. Typically I just plug in the SD adapter to the computer and the computer recognizes the memory card as a disk, but this card is not being read. I tried the older 2GB SanDisk memory card and that is recognized by the computer, but the new 8GB card is not. The 8GB card works fine in the camera, the computer just is not recognizing it.... this is not a windows machine, I don't think it is an OS issue.

I have a 2 gb that refused to be read in the adapter card reader on my iMac. After several attempts I decided to turn the Lock switch on on the card reader. Voila! It worked. I was able to see the contents but not touch them naturally. I ejected it and turned the Lock off, and held my breath to see if the card would be read. It was!!! Phew!!!

A corrupt or missing boot sector will cause such kind of problem.

To fix the boot sector, you may refer to http://www.ptdd.com/partition-table-doctor/help/fixboot.htm

If it still cannot be solved, you have to recover all the data out and then format the partition as the system indicates so that you can enter the partition again.
