Hi Rosa, I have discovered I can send emails, even though it says they are not going through, so for the moment I am sending a blind copy to myself so I have a record of the email. I have been working with my email provider. They claim it is the antivirus software that I am using that is causing the problem. I do not think this is true in my situation, but it may be worth looking into. Will let me know if I discover anything!

It sounds as if your profile is corrupt. I would back up all your outlook settings and messages delete the profile and restore all your information. It is actually quite easy to do. Here is a link for it.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670

Just follow the instructions and you should have no issues.

Dear JP,
You are he best! Thank you so much for taking the time to help. I have been going crazy with this problem since Jan. 6th and have spent hours on the net trying to fix it. Thanks to you, it is now fixed. I set up a new identity, imported my address book and messages into the new identity, and I am off and running again. I cannot thank you enough. You are truly my hero!
Best, Caroline

Hi, I saw that you helped Caroline, I was wondering if you can help me.
I just bought a new laptop that has windows vista premium on it.
I am trying to access my WORK email through my work website.
I can do everything just fine, except for when I open a new eamil or try to respond I can't type in the body of the email.
All I see is a little box with a red X in it in the top left hand corner.
Can you help me. I have been trying to resolve this since December.

Thank you! am

Hi JP,

I'm having the exact same problem as "am" - i.e. not able to type in the body of an e-mail, I just see that little red x. Do you know how to resolve this? I am also using Windows Vista Premium. On my previous computer I was running XP and had no issues.

Thanks!

I am sympathetic. My e-mail address is blocked by a page saying that Apache is working on your cPanel and WHM Server. This is my business site and I don't know who can help. So far g-mail has been terrific, but not having a person to help is scary

Hi Everyone,

We've come across the same problem here. The problem isn't fixable from your personal computer but requires a patch to be installed by the administrator of your Outlook Web Access (OWA) server to which you connect when you access your e-mail. There's a description of the problem and how to fix it here:

http://blogs.msdn.com/...

Try contacting your administrator and pass along this webpage to them.

Good luck!

Inherintly, the problem is that Microsoft doesn't trust users. I have come accross many times when Outlook won't send an email, but another client will work fine (such as Thunderbird). This means that it's not a security filter on the network, but Microsoft thinking we don't know when to be safe. I've sometimes reloaded outlook and then it works, or I have to completely wipe out all saved network types so that windows will netect a "new" network, and then you should not choose public, or close (where public is the default). Sadly, without this setting, your PC leaks private information like crazy.

Years ago we learned to call this Microsoft "LookOut" not Outlook

Try this and see if this works for your problem. Go to the control panel open up windows firewall (even if it is truned off) go to the advanced tab then click on restore defaults. It took me a long time to figure this out. I was having the same problem and it fixed mine hope it works for you as well.

This is what I did to fix the problem, opened microsoft outlook- clicked "TOOLS" then, OPTIONS under options clicked on TAB "Mailsetup" then click----half way down "Send and Receive button, opens and click on Edit button, click on button" Accounts properties", new window shows "Internet E-mail settings"--- click tab on top " OUTGOING SERVER", then I put the dot in the one on the bottom the reads "Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail" clicked okay, okay, close, close, okay, sent myself an email. And my problem was fixed, I have been looking now for a week, and I figured it out myself. Try it I hope you too will have your problem fixed! Now if only I could fix the rest of my problems!! Good Luck Wendy

Thank you, Wendy!!!

I have been without my e-mail send option for two weeks with no hope. I called my internet service provider and, although they tried to help, they did not know either.

After you trying your fix, I am back in business!!!!

Thank you!

I work at a helpdesk and some users have reported that they are unable to send messages but receive them.

When sending a test message they get the message

Unable to Send this item.

I have searched and searched for an answer to this question and nothing. But I have the solution

Goto Tools>Options and then goto Mail Format and change from Rich Text to HTML

Press Apply and then OK

Go back to Tools>Options and change the Mail Format from HTML to Rich Text and hit Apply and OK

Happy Sending

I faced this problem where some users reported this problem. Tried many things. Then I downloaded free version of avira and ran a scan on the users machine. After cleaning the viruses the user was able send emails.
I am testing it out on other machines too.
