Vista Won't load past welcome screenSolved/Closed

Hello,
 
I'm having serious computer problems with Microsoft Vista.  My computer will let me type the password in, and then when it's at the welcome screen, it will not load past it.  I can see it trying to load, but in my opinion, twenty minutes is enough time to load.  So, I shut the computer down and tried to load it back up.  It then prompted me to the System Restore screen. I tried to restore, and then restart, but was then prompted to a disk check screen for my C/NFTS drive or whatever it is.  Also, there's this lloud. crunching obnoxious sound coming from inside the laptop.  What could this be - harddrive, fan? What? The laptop is a HP Pavillion Dv9000 by the way.

Also, on an unrelated note -sometimes when I click on a link [any random link] on IE, sometimes it will just start opening hundreds and hundreds of new IE windows. Bahh.
 I hate this laptop...

how much your ram? 2 gb?if you using vista premium you neen minimum 2 gb but 4 gb ram better but really I hate all vista series I can advice delete vista install xp ,i can fix your pc but im sure im farr:)

The load crunching sound might be the hard drive doing its best to read a sector that is damaged.  You probably need to replace the hard drive.

If going to buy a computer don't buy HP Pavilion with Vista. It doesn't work and it would be a waste of time because it wont boot. I have one, a pavilion a6057d with vista for a year and I've only use it for a 3 months because you can system restore it by then but now it hard to use because it does not boot up.

i have the same problem too! mine has only been occuring for the past week and a half though. I have a vaio CR120. the only thing that works for me [temporarily, of course] is doing a "force shutdown"

The problem is not vista, it's the user. Vista is only ment for new age machines so dont put it on your old computer that had XP on it because all the old software will not work and finding drivers will be harder then raising the dead.

This is how you solve this issue, and the real issue is that your HD (hard drive) has a boot failure. This is caused by holding down the shutdown button and/or a power serge. So what you need to do is download Winpe ISO and burn it using nero or your choice of burning software. Then when those steps are completed restart your laptop and run Winpe. Once loaded go to start>CMD   then type in the following code chkdisk c: /r . Then let the whole process complete and you should then be able to log into windows again.

If you still can not login to windows there is a tool to figure out if ur hard drive is dieing or id dead. This is called Hirens download that and run it off start up.

wow lo and behold im going tru the same problem, and im supposed to be proficient at this  if the nvidia drivers for xp wasnt so buggy id settle on using it but I need vista back system recovery dont works but as it tries to run vista it just restarts right  after vista tries to load.

dv9831ca  it also works flawlessly in linux (ubuntu 8.10)  but I ot this wintv hvr that is murda to install ahe nd I absolutely need.im out of my country  Canada or id be on the phone with customer service like crazy.

It seems a few are on the right track in here.

You say it's making a loud crunching sound during boot.  9 out of 10 times this is a bad hard drive.  It's as simple as that.  If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP to take care of it.  If it isn't then you'll either want to find a qualified computer repair shop or tackle the job yourself.  

And all the Vista haters in this thread need to think a little deeper before responding.  It's a good operating system, it's the future of Microsoft OS, get over it.  Trying to install XP on a dead hard drive is about as easy as "raising the dead" as well.  If you want your new hardware to be supported and fully utilized by your operating system, you have very little choice but to move on to Vista - XP is a dead point.

I had the exact same problem on my pavillion laptob with vista but I found a way to fix it. When you press control alt delete and the option screen thingy comes up start task manager but then go along the taskbar menu to services and right click one and press open and it works!

hey guys. 

i have the same problem. 

when the screen goes blank or gets stuck on the loading screen. simply press cntrl alt delete -----> task manager ----> file -----> new task ------> then type explorer.exe and hit ok.

This should start up your desktop. Only trouble is you have to do this everytime until we find a fix. Hope this helps.

managed to fix it.

it seemed to be a registry key problem. So I invested in registry key mechanic. and voila my pc is now booting up again.

now to get my dvd drive to show up again. vista really is one buggy operating system.

Im having kinda the same problem as well, only when I load my computer normally, a yellow line shows at the top. But if I run it in safe mode, it works fine. Help?

boot the computer in safe mode and delete the windows update from 1/15/09 or near that date dont remember the update number. 
It should work after that if you were having the same problem I was of the comp not booting and having these weird colored vertical lines that faded in and out. 

This is the umteenth time I have had a problem with vista updates through microsoft

i am having the same problem....my computer went to the blank screen before logging in. it says its doing a system recovery... the weird thing is my computer (mine) is the same thing an has no problems. knock on wood. its the family computer with all the problems an its newer.. windows xp 2gb. mine is windows xp 1gb. when I upgraded mcafee in october it started workin better... now its not...

Hi Guys,

I seem to have found a soultion that I think might help some of you.

If you have an Intel chipset with RAID, it installs a RAID monitor service on your machine. If your RAID suddenly feels the need to do a consistancy check & repairs then, for some reason, this service kept causing my main profile not to load. This explains why your HDDs are grinding away, trying to repair the array.

It was obvious as I went into safe mode and all works fine. So I created a new admin user, rebooted and logged into the new user. Finally, up comes the new user's desktop and Intel says it's rebuilding the array. Best thing to do (as the RAID is gonna repair whether you like it or not) is just to stop & disable the service (listed under "Intel...." in services) and simply log off your new user and back onto your normal one.

This method works for me. Clearly some kind of glitch with the Intel monitor and Vista, I will be reporting it. Just a note, when I re-enabled this and rebooted all was ok..... but it then later decided to do another re-build and it happened again. It's clear this was to blame.

I downloaded and installed a newer version of vista on my laptop but its all gone horrible wrong and now my system recovery wont work.  I have heard you can buy recovery discs for your machine but if im still under warranty can I get the discs free? and can some1 tell me where 2 get them from pls.

It's bad RAM. I had a friends I had to fix. Sometimes it wouldn't turn on, sometimes it made it a little farther. First I took out the 512 stick from the underneath, still no luck. Then I took out the 512 stick from under the keyboard, and put the 1st stick in there. Turned on no problem. I replaced the bottom most with a 1gb stick from Crucial for 13 bux and haven't had any boot up problems since. This is the 2nd DELL I've personally worked on with crappy cheap RAM. It could've been worse...

Hey people, i've found a way for the guys who can logon, get past the stupid "Welcome" page and get to their blank and unloaded desktop with nothing on it. I've been doing this for quite some time now and I'm sick of it, but this is what I did:

Hold CTRL & ALT & DELETE on your keyboard at the same time. A menu should come up and you should see :

Start Task manager

Click on it, then task manager shows up. Click new task, and type in "explorer" (without quotations of course).
Windows explorer should have loaded up and your desktop should be back to normal. However, I am sick of doing this everytime I log on! Someone, PLEASE HELP US!!!

OMG so many people have the same problem! Mine happened today. I was just playing an internet game then suddenly my laptop asked me to close my programs and restart the computer for 'updates'. So I did then everything froze. I turned it off then turned it back on. suddenly this 'startup recovery' thingo came up and as trying to fix the error.. it took forever. all I ended up with was a dead, black screen with nothing on it ... just backlights. im seriously scared especially that the laptop isnt mine, its my family's. please help. my laptop is HP dv9722TX -windows vista

Go to windows/system32 and locate LogonUI.exe

Copy LogonUI from another working pc to yours delete the corrupted logonUI from your pc and paste the working and your done

I am having a similar problem except that when I try to turn on my computer it gets to the blue welcome screen and automatically restarts.  It is stuck in an infinite loop like this unless I hold the power button.  Anybody have any Ideas on how to fix this?

SOLVED!!! my own problem was the same thing as everyone.  I found out you could tap the F10 at start up and it would take you to windows discovery.  I then chose to restore factory settings. Granted the reload process took a bit, my vaio turns on and off and now I don't have to stare at a blinking cursor with a black background.

Well, I kind of have the same problem as you guys. So here's my story. 

Well, i'm 15 years old. A couple of days ago I was a little.. Curious about some things and went to some sites. >.> 
And that started giving alot of viruses. And my brother gets on and downloads alot of random stuff too. So it started getting worse and worse, and now, about every 30 minutes or so, it makes this louuuud, long obnoxious beep noise, and theres a small window that said something, I don't really remember. The end of the sentence it had stated that it was probably due to a virus. And my I get these little Winamp popup things coming from the bottom sides of my screen saying that I have a virus on my computer. So i'm pretty sure my problem is the work of a virus. Around last week I was searching for a free virus DELETER or something, but all I found were like virus trackers, or i'm just not sure on how to work them so it gets the virus out. So I had went to my friends house yesterday, and he was like inserting his SD card into my laptop trying to get some texture hack stuff for Brawl. After about an hour of him inserting and outserting his SD card, (i'm not exactly sure on how it got turned off he must've restarted.) it would take a long while saying "Welcome " after I put my password in, so I though it was okay, because it would usually take like a minute to logg in, and it'd go to that black screen and it'd do the explorer.exe thing. But it wouldn't logg in at all this time. After about 20 minutes it finally got in, but it was being super weird, there was the black screen at the back, and there were windows saying "Relevantknowledge (or something) is not working, please close or something.", and stuff like that. Even when I run my comp in safe mode and try to logg in, it takes forever to logg in, and instead it takes me to the system restore thing, which did nothing. Can someone please help me? My mom will seriously own me if she find out I screwed the laptop. :X 

And my apologies if this exact problem has been solved, I don't really have time to look through the other posts, i'm hungry and my mom brought some shrimp fried rice. :D

Ok real quick I had the black screen of death on a monster of a machine .. top of the line parts .. But totally my fault by practicing some techniques so to speak by passing windows protocol. If it is not virus related Download a bit torrent of the retail windows vista (if you have multiple machines use a diff one or a buddies and burn the ISO to a DVD so you can boot off it) and enter the vista code you own and paid for but they retailer was to cheap to give you a disk. Run the install on the drive it has been installed on. It will move your old stuff to a separate file, something like winold. As far as drivers go you can point windows at that folder and it will pull missing drivers that you already had installed off that directory. It will also have you saved stuff like music and pictures, but if your not backing up regularly call it a lesson learned for any file or bookmark loss. If it is virus infestation usually better to wipe the drive and reinstall and learn your backup lesson and stop doing stuff out of your control or visiting those german fetish porn sites ;)


Anyway the OS repair/over install works for many things and is tried and true method for fixing annoying system issues.

have just had the same problem with an acer 6935G laptop ..........could not get past the welcome screen for love nor money , tried all the usual remedies already mentioned ............in the end we got in touch with the acer helpline ..........within 60 seconds we had a solution       switch it on and immediately repeatedly tap  alt + f10 .....it took us into the erecovery console for acer ..........and reset it back to factory settings ( something we couldnt do before ) ..............alt + f10 !!!!!       may just work for acers though , no sure about other makes of pc ?

If you mean it goes past the welcome screen, but then the screen turns black, or something like that, all you have to do is:

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete

2. A screen should show up with the same background as your logon screen.

3. Click Start Task Manager

4. Make sure that towards the top of the window, you are in Applications.

5. Click New Task...

6. There should be a new window open.

7. In the box after it says Open: Type in explorer.exe

8. Your desktop should show up

I had a similar problem with a customer's laptop. Dell Inspiron 1501. The fix ended up being to update the Wireless and Wired network drivers. Funny enough there were no changes to these drivers that caused this issue. It was working when I got it to do a simple RAM upgrade and upon reboot I had the hang issue at the Welcome screen. I found this solution at another site and was skeptical but after updating the network card drivers on the dell website I was able to boot into vista normally... weird huh? :P  

The other solution is to boot into safe mode (press F8 during boot up if you have to, to get the menu for safe mode) and the run msconfig and disable stuff and then reboot, rinse and repeat until you can log in, then you know what is causing your problem and you can move on to finding a fix. 

I've been an avid pc enthusiast for 15 years and I have built many many many computers from scratch. I have worked as a pc tech for large companies, I have done phone support for a major computer manufacturer, I have worked for government entities and financial institutions and I gave it all up because the more I worked on computers at a professional level the more I hated them. Now I work in the Telecom industry making more than I ever did in the pc/networking industry and I love my pcs again :P  however windows never ceases to amaze me on how weird problems can be solved by the most abstract piece of hardware in relation to the symptom. Funny enough I always find big-name computers like dell or hp to have the weirdest problems and really its no surprise, they have the most customized components unlike stock parts that adhere to standards as much as possible.

Update your wirelss worked for me.. so boot up safe mode with networking and download the driver for your wireless card from the manufacturer site..mine was dell then restart :)

Try Removing the Battery and then turning on your computer. Worked for me. Also if that works, you may have a faulty battery.

For now I got around this by doing task manager Ctrl + Alt + Delete then clicking new task under applications tab and type in explorer

this is only a temporary fix, as it'll only load up windows when you type it in, but I'm looking around anyway for a permanent fix, when windows starts up all the start-up programs will as well, network, MSN, Skype... ETC. but this'll work without a doubt

You'll have all the features of windows with out Safe mode, and all you have to do is follow my process and you should be fine.

1. get to the black windows logging on screen
2. press ctrl, alt and delete
3. click start task manager
4. click 'applications' tag
5. click new task
6. a run program should turn up, into which you type 'Explorer' (without the apostrophes).
7. enjoy having your windows back, with access to all your programs and even internet, and start-up.

NOTE: you will have to do this every time you log on, so this is not a permanent fix

PS: I learnt this the hard way along with you, after many minutes of thinking I remember seeing I new task near the end task button, "ahhh" I exclaimed, "this button may be the answer to mine, and I'm sure many other people's problems. so then I tested my theory by typing 'chrome.exe' (Google Chrome). then I had a thought I'll see if this works with Windows so I typed 'windows.exe' unfortuantly, this was not the answer so I knew what I had to do, I opened a image editing program, clicked open, then all files so I could browse to find the .exe file and under C:\windows\System32, I found 'Explorer.exe' which I remember seeing many times in task manager, and I said "this looks promising" so I started up the task through Task manager > run and Voila!! that the story!

I've read  all the comments.for those of you can run your  pc in safe mode and run your antivirus and other security software please do so..run virus and malware checks from safe mode.it will take a bit longer than running them with an open desktop of course. if you can't get your pc into safemode and don't know enough about pc jargen to understand instructions given to you by others then the best thing to do is to roll back your pc  to a the last day that you knew it was working well or just reformat your hard drive .yes you'll lose all your old files that you've downloadsed to your machine.if you don't don't have the knowledge , or ability or patience to do step by step what pc savvy people instruct u to do(and I used to be like that myself) then it's best to just redo your c drive from the beginning.stick in your discs that came with the pc and follow instructions to get your pc up and running again. i've had to do so in the past many times. I don't have to now but there was a time..many times.there's many reasons possible  why the pc isn't booting..or isn't getting past the welcome screen..or isn't finsishing the boot process even though the cursor indicates that something is being loaded or that the processor  is actively 'doing' something.in fact there's usually more than 1 or 2 reasons these things can occur. I wish everyone good luck,as i've spent many times in the past crying,shaking my fist and cussing out(all at the same time)my computer.in fact I believe that it would be a wise idea,before buying one's first pc,to take an anger management course. I believe that in the past,i've been so angry at computers that would break down that I actually invented new cuss words at those times. hope this doesn't happen to any of you!! good luck people

does your laptop han an antivirus system on it? instead on safe mode with networking, try regular safe mode get into an admin account and do system restore!! all in safe mode

hope it works...4 advise if u dont have an anti virus system on it...get avg free its free of charge and get limewire off before u put it on...then reinstall limewire
