Pls check the version of flash player.
it may be due to error in explorer.

Hi!

I am also facing similar situation. My IE version is 7. On clicking a link whihc is supposed to open a file (pdf, doc etc.) a new blank page opens. The only option for me is to first download by right clicking the link and chossing the "save target as" command and then opening in the requesite format.

Any sugestions on why this problem occurs

regards

I am having a similar problem. I am building a web site that is being distributed on both DVD and web server. There are many links throughout the site to both HTML and Files (PDF, Excel, and Word. When viewing the HTML files of the web site as local files on my computer filing system, the links to HTML pages work fine in Interent Explorer, but links to files do not do anything. The browser just sits there. No action whatsoever, other than showing the link as "File:<location/name.extension> This also occurs when viewing the site burned to DVD. However when posted and servered from a web server (IIS), all the links work just fine and the site looks great and works great in both IE and Firefox. When I view the site with FireFox (local file system, on DVD, and Web served), eveything works just fine. All of our webmasters have NO CLUE what's going on and I'm on a deadline to distribute the disk. Does anyone have any ideas? I've also done Dreamweaver browser checks and it shows no problems. HELP!

Thanks!

Richard

I would guess that it has to do with local security settings or IE security zones. It's probably a browser default to NOT allow files to be run or executed when launched from the "local" zone, but oddly enough it does let those same files work from the "internet" zone.

I don't know any fix offhand or if it's even possible to fix this issue without changing the browser's security settings, but that's where I'd start to look. Perhaps a customized self-contained browser included on the disc would work, something with the security settings set how you need them to be set.
