Hello,
I have bought a D-Link DIR-300 Wireless Broadband router recently, I successfully managed to configure my internet connection on it and connecting to it by my windows vista sp1 laptop and my wireless hp printer but my windows xp desktop doesn't get configured easily! it says there is limited connectivity, my router DHCP is configured to give IP addresses ranged from 192.168.0.100 to 199 and its subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and my router IP is 192.168.0.1 that becomes my default gateway and DNS server as a result for example on my vista computer! but my xp is totally mixed up! The automatic IP that it gets is like 169.254.216.64 with 255.255.0.0 subnet mask!!!!!!!!!! and the result is nothing! How could I solve it?! thanks

Configuration: Windows XP, D-link DIR-300
Firefox 3.0

Try to enter "ipconfig /renew" in the run command of the start window.

Hani, have u managed to solve this problem? I've got the exact same problem. The ipconfig/renew command is unable to fix it. The command prompt cursor continues to blink without any result. Funny thing is when i disable my symantec endpoint protection, the internet connection is successful but its too risky to access the web without any antivirus protection. Please advice. Thank you.

Hi xpcman, btan and hani,

I have run into the same problem -- my WLAN is set up and shows on my available networks on my laptop but I cannot connect to the internet on my desktop when the router is hooked up. the ipconfig/renew didnt work for me either. I even tried setting up a static ip on my desktop to match the ip on the D-Link Router and that didn't work.

Any help anyone???

Thanks

I have the same problem. The Vista computers work great, both laptop and desktop, but my stupid XP computer doesn't want to connect. I have tried changing the IP address manually, strangely I get a connection but I can't access the internet. All my browsers can't find the server. That is so annoying.

Perhaps it is just my computer, I've had this problem before. If your IP Address is suppose to be something like 192.168.0.1, try changing the IP address to something like 192.168.1.1 or 1.2, that might help. you will also get a subnet from that too something like 555. ...

Its just a suggestion.

Instead of running "ipconfig" run "cmd /k ipconfig"

This doesn't work. After disabling NAT, I couldn't get a connection to the Internet. Worse, I can't even load the Web-based router configuration utility to re-enable NAT. I had to spend the best part of the day fiddling around, booting, rebooting, googling, ...... until finally I did a factory reset of the router and reconfigured it and the wireless adapter.

I'm on Windows XP too, but my problem is that sometimes no IP address is assigned to my computer (as indicated on the Status tab) and I can't do a DHCP renew either from the same page or from the command prompt.

I do hope someone can genuinely help.

As mentioned above, I reset the router (there's a sunken button on the back panel, just press it with a pencil and hold for a few seconds). But you'll have to reconfigure everything again.

I'm not sure if there is an easier way.
