I am having a similar problem. The power button will not turn it on, but the laptop has a remote and the power button on the remote does work. The power button on the laptop will power the machine off, just not on.

If it is a Power Button problem, then you might be able to use the QuickPlay Button as a substitute. The problem most likely is a ZIF cable that connects the motherboard to the power button. That cable controls sound too. You can either order a new cable....they are hard to find at the moment. Or you can swap the cable that controls the touch buttons. The cable is a ribbon cable, which weakens from pressing the power button due to flexing.

I had similar problem where i have to wiggle the power cord to connects to my HP laptop for it to start charging (solid blue light). I opened up my laptop (actually to replace heat sink fan ) and found that the connector is soldered on small pcb. The probem appeared that connetor cannot withstand day to day handling of power cable in and out and is going to comeoff from its connection with pcb.
Difficult part for me was to resolder the connector as I don't want to mess up other connection nearby on the PCB. I am looking for a technician who knows hp laptops can do better job.

Hey,
Was wondering if you got an answer to your problem?
Mine acts like the power connection is faulty?
There is no light to indicate the battery is charging or plugged into power, the hold upside down and reset didn't work for me either.

Thanks

Hi yes i did fix it I took the adapter out and the battery then put the laptop in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer for an hour. When i brought it out i let it thaw out for a while then put the adapter back in and it worked
NB dont put the battery back in or it'll go dead again!!! if so repeat the process
good luck

I had a problem with my laptop having no power also. I did what you suggested to turn it upside down and it worked. So thank you very much. I would however like to know why it worked. I just bought the laptop 2nd hand 2 days ago and if this is the beginning of a major problem, I have the option of returning it for another 2nd hand one they have. Kind regards :-)

Thank you so much, I tried holding the laptop upside down and it worked!!! I have been able to back up my information as I should have done before. However, I am still fearful that the problem may come up again. I am wondering, based on the solution of having to invert the computer, what might be the overall bigger problem and is it easily fixable? Thanks.

My friends Acer Laptop wouldn't power on, after his power cord had got severed and then he ran the battery down, before he bought a new cord but the laptop would not still power on. After trying everything we knew i went to the desk top and googled for help and got this thread. I disconnected the laptop's battery and power cord and held it over my head with the power button pushed in (feeling kinda stupid) and when i connected the battery and power cord much to my surprise the laptop came back on. Just wanted to say THANKS!!!

I had same problem and I used the same remedy above.
I turned the laptop off took the battery out took the power cord out turned it upside down held the power button down for 30 seconds. Then plugged it back in and it started as normal.

This problem started for me when I moved the laptop from one room to another by unplugging it while it was on.

Hi!
I have a sony vaio (NR260E) laptop bought some time during june 2008. It is a factory refurbished laptop bought from Japan. The warranty period has been expired. Now I'm in india. Untill yesterday my laptop was running perfect. And I did a normal shutdown too. But when I tried to power on the laptop later the screen was was not displaying anthing. (Black screen)I don't know what to do. But can anyone suggest the solution. Is there anything related to motherboard. The power button in my laptop is showing on so it can not be the problem with power cable. Please help.

Thanks in advance

If Ur power adapter is giving the right voltage and amp then try to Put your laptop in a refrigerator ,freezer part of Ur refrigerator about 1hr with a plastic cover (to protect from food leakage……… …..don’t laugh it’s scientifically proven refer Elektor electronics magazine (2009 issue) and I am experienced it
Its applicable to any SMT (Surface Mounted Technology) used circuit boards

Toshiba Satellite A135-S2246.

Plugging it in, the power light comes on, but no battery-charge light.

Power button completely unresponsive.

Tried the solution here- remove battery and power, hold power button for 30 seconds, replace battery, turn on.

Worked like a charm, and my heart attack is aborted!

I had the same problem, laptop turn on then turn it off after 2 seconds. I've tried all the methods the forum provided, but none of them worked. Since I fixed PCs in my part-time, so I was able to take everything apart, and diagnose the problem.

Turns out, it has something to do with my Ram. I have a 1GB Ram (512MB * 2), and for some reason one is malfunction which caused the other one function improperly as well. What I did was , I switch the memory card to different slot, and my laptop was able to boot fine afterward.

My Laptop turns on for 2 sec and usually the fan with kick into gear and that is not evening kicking into gear. I am guessing that it's not having enough time to boot up. It just shuts right back off. As I read your post about the RAM, but I cant even get the back off my laptop. I need my laptop so back. Please can you provide me with advice? If all methods are not working try to unscrew yor laptop's fan. There must be some dirt between your fan and the radiator. Try to clean it. It's cheaper than buing a new battery. Regards
