Partition without format

Hi
buddies i have actually a 320gb hard disk and windows xp installed i wanted to know if its possible to partition the hard disk without having to format it?

Configuration: Windows Vista

1. remove as much extra data as possible (especially the large files)

2. defragment the drive

You could use hirens 9.5 boot disk, then run partition magic, with this program you can resize your disk, make a new partition, etc.
