HAVE Vista Home Edition Desktop won't activate when computer is turned on. Can someone help me?

Same problem with StepMania v4.0. 3.9 works fine. Upgraded my PC to Vista Home Premium, now when I launch StepMania, I get a blank screen. I get sound and everything seems to be working (i can hear the cursor moving as I press the arrow keys). System specs: Pentium D Processor (3.6ghz), 2XATI Radeon 3870 (running in crossfire). Latest video drivers. Anything else you need to know?
