Hello buddy,

dos will be able to format it even if the pen drive is damaged but in windows it isnt possible as windows will try to autorun it and this will take a lot of time if the pen is damaged. im thinking that the pen drive could been possibly damaged and i would advice you to get the advice of an IT technician before coming to any conclusion.

Hi jags,

Let me explain it clearly to you.
Basically FAT32 means it supports upto 32 GB only. However, the pen drive you have is 40GB and cannot be partitioned nor it supports NTFS format. So, it will not display either FAT or NTFS file system drop down of Pen drive. Because, the file system is not specified, the Windows system will not start formating and go further.

Regards,
Remo.

First of all there is no pen drive in the market with the capacity of 40 GB and second thing if you got a 40 GB pen drive then it's a fake Chinese pen drive it will not work to the capacity of 40 GB it's real capacity is 128 MB to 1 GB

I have got the same problem with my fake kingston 80GB pen drive. windows can not format this pen drive, so you have to download external formatting software from internet, HP USB DISK FORMAT TOOL might be helpful. But in any case, these pen drives are useless.

Friend
I recently purchased a 64 GB Pen Drive from a bloke in London England.
Try a file called made by a very smart German chappie. log into h2testw.exe you may have to change the language but it reads your pendrive and tells you exactly if it;s a fake or not . It then gives you a print out / readout of the findings - in my case my 64 gb pendrive was only 18 gb and you must and i mean must exit the pen drive before removing it from your computer.
Hope this helps -
Vinnie

Seasons greetings!
hello sasa,

NOTE - These step only include in vista and for pendrives which canot be format in FAT 32 or NTFS.

Its really easy, you just got to plug the pendrive to the computer and then it will appear in "my computer' but when you try to open it it says that you need to format so what you got to do is just right click on the icon and select format,in xp you will see all blanks but you got to have windows vista to do so, so in vista,in the format type it will automatically show a mode called "EX FAT" then select quick format and finally click format. Very easy and thats all you will be able to enjoy your pendrive.

THANK YOU.
