Hello,

I am Ashlee and I have been facing some problems with my monitor. It has been displaying vertical red-dotted lines on the screen. I tried to restart the computer several times but they are still there. I also verified my monitor connection but there is nothing wrong. Can someone tell me if it’s a problem with my monitor please?

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.1

Hi Ashlee,
Im Arthur. Do not use your real name on the internet:
( Advice: Avoid giving personal information (mail, telephone, etc ...).

About the red lines:
If you are on a LCD flat screen or a laptop,
There are chips that are both Horzontal ,and vertical amplifiers.
They amplify the digital signal from the video card.
They amplify the pixels for the red, green and blue pixels.

What the problem I think is that a Amplifier chip is bad, or its connections are bad.
on a Horzontial red pixel amplifier. ( for that screen region ).
On some Macintosh Powerbooks, all that is needed is some solder to fix,
you are either going to have to learn to live with it, or are going to
have to have it replaced. ( No one, fixes the chips anymore. )

What kind of display is it?
I can find you some cheap replacements.

Hey guys,

Well you are right Arthur but this problem can also be linked to your video RAM of your video card or to your monitor. These dotted lines are called artifacts and if they are displayed all over the screen, it might come from your monitor. You might have a bad RAM installed the artifacts are not visible on another monitor when you take a screenshot of the displayed screen. Hence, I would strongly suggest you to change your monitor.

Hey guys,

I have same issue as Ashlee. Would it not also help to disable the video card and run video from mother board? At least to rule out video card. My first inclination was video card, but now starting to concider monitor since it has had a bad connection (short) at plug end of vga cable for years now.

Hi There,

I have had the same problem, getting blocks of red lines on my screens.

I have a dual monitor setup and am experiencing the same issue on both monitors, I tried updating graphics/monitor drivers etc but nothing worked. I know its not the monitors because if I move a window which has the lines on they disappear for a few seconds but then re-appear.

I finally solved my issue by changing the Refresh Rate in the Display Settings in Vista. It was set to 60hertz, when i changed this to 70hertz the issue is gone. I'm not sure why this happened because i'm sure I have always had it on 60hertz, but anyway its fixed on mine now.

Hope this helps anyone facing the same issue.

Hey ya'll,

I had this same issue. I hooked up another monitor and still got the squiggly red and cyan lines. I next took a screen capture and opened it at work. Saw lines in screen cap. Bought and installed new graphics card and issue was resolved.

I too have the red lines. I'm running XP service pack 3, Nvidia 6600 gt on an Asus P5LD2 SE motherboard. I've tried different monitors, but the problem persists. I don't think it's the graphics card, because the problem goes away when I'm in safe mode. Must be a software or driver glitch. I've tried rolling back the drivers, but that didn't help. Hope someone smarter then me, can help figure this one out.

I had green lines on my monitor and after trawling loads of sites (incl this one) for hi-tech advice I looked round the back of my monitor and saw that the cable from the CPU was a bit loose - tightened the screws and hey presto no more lines. Your mileage may vary, but you lose nothing by trying!

... for the sake of completeness I should add that the other thing I did, before fiddling with the cable, was PRAY. Not that this proves anything about the nature of prayer. But the full procedure is:
- pray for the monitor to work
- fiddle with the cables
see Nehemiah 4:9 for the general process map: http://www.biblegateway.com/...
