Hey Dude this kind of message only comes if the memory inside the flash drice is not picked by the flash drice socket
go to a repairing shop and it might help
this once happened with my cell phone memory card but now its fine
flash drices are cheap in my country
i would go ahead and buy a new one
but if there was something very important in it i would do anything to fix it

On MyComputer, it should be the name of your thumb drive. You might have another name, though, such as Lexar Media (one of mine is called this) or a name you gave the thumb drive yourself.

I think the problem is due to a virus. Your system might have a virus. It is the virus causing your local drive to not function properly. i suggest you install a good antivirus to your computer like kaspersky and NOD32. I have experience same problem before.

I learned by accident after being frustrated with the same problem, that if you have one of the newer flash card with 2g or 4g, the problem may well be the card reader that was designed before the larger capacity flash card came into use. I tried a newer card reader and it is all working fine. It did cause a lot of grief in between however.

Hey robert, I understand that your prob. was related to us. But based on your blog i came into conclusion that you are using a memory card not a flash drive. am i right? The problem with us using flash drive is we can't change or put our flash drive into card reader. But thanks though for the info.

This problem can be fixed in a simple way.... Just go to My computer > right click > choose manage> disk management

there you see the details of your pen/flash drive separately

right click there and create a new partition and format it completely or just format completely

your pen/flash drive is ready....

Hello friend,

Just do one thing go to My computer>right click>manage>disk management

select the pen drive there separately and format...... check it again

if it doesnt works then again go to same location select your pen drive and opt for delete logical drive

then again right click to form a new partition or logical drive..... select form a new logical drive and again format it completely..

Note: dont opt for quick format,,, let it format completely.

hope this solves your problem,.....

Seems like you have a fake flash drive there - there are a lot of them around. You'll find information about this issue on my fightflashfraud blog on wordpress. There is a free program you can download to test flash drives called h2testw which will give you a report showing the real capacity of the drive, which is probably a lot less than is shown in the properties window - probably only 4GB

Did you try to open the flash drive using the address bar ?
I.e if the flash drive is drive H then type H:\
If it opens then the issue is with the OS.

If the drive shows up under my computer but won't open when you click on it, it may open if you right click on it and hit Explore. My jump drive won't open when i double click on it right now, but it will let me choose explore and i can see all the files in it.

I had a similar problem before. If we're talking about the same virus, I fixed bypassed it by just typing the drive's path in the address bar, or right-clicking and choosing explore. But by the looks of it you're talking about something else.

But now I have another problem, my new USB stick/mp3 player has this new system wherein in creates a new drive space in MyComputer, and I can't use the method earlier to fix this because I don't know the name of the path. Has anyone experienced this?

Howdy!
I've been having the same problem, except with any kind of external storage i use.

I've found that if I open the command prompt, and just type 'start f:" (replace 'f' with whatever the drive letter is) it will open up no problem.

Hope this helps!

Doing this would delete all your files.

When the pop up window shows up go to Browse

then go to the Windows Folder on the C drive.

Look for explorer.exe and select that as the program to run it with.

It opens up the Flash Drive.

Then once you saved your files, format your flash drive.

This worked for me

I was having the same problem. this was with my 8gb micro sd usb reader (basically a flash drive) and it happened in both computers i have. Basically, i did nothing but kept plugging it in and finally, something just took. it then popped up the "what do you want windows to do" thing and everything was still there. Sorry this isn't a fix, but it also looks like it's not a virus issue or a device issue...keep trying and maybe it's just a fluke????

You can right click on the icon of your drive and re-format it if you don't have anything important on it. Odds are that it might have gotten removed while data was still being sent and it might have corrupted the software.

I've actually had this problem on two separate occasions with what seemed to be the same issue. However, one was recoverable, the other wasn't. To find out if it's recoverable, download & install the trial version of an application called 'Data Recovery Wizard v4.3.6'. Run the wizard & click 'Complete Recovery', if it sees your flash drive then you are in luck. However, the trial version won't complete the recovery until you buy the Pro version. At this point do a web search for a similar free product until you find one that will recover it. Or you can spend the money for the Pro version. This was the only product that actually worked for me though. Good luck.

Ok, then try this with the one you suspected not to work at all with "recovery wizard".
Put that usb flash into am Aplle Macintosh pc and I guarantee you it will recognise it and give you access to all
your files on it.

Please send me a reply , when u find out that I was right.
