It's the best distro for your Laptop, 'cause I have the same model and it resolved my problems of sound, wifi and mi graphic card. Reply to The Barx | 12 steve, on May 6, 2009 10:44:44 pm BSTYou've got to be kidding me. The wifi works if you don't mind a machine that crashes within 30 minutes of surfing the web. The only linux distro that works on this laptop (I know because I own a Toshiba a215 S7437) is one that is running in a Virtualbox installation in Windows. The wifi chip just does _not_ have a good linux driver solution. The native driver is very, very unstable, and the only other option is the win98 driver + ndiswrapper which turns out to be only slightly more stable than the native drivers. At the end of the day, this laptop is not for Linux users. I wish I knew that when I bought it. However, it runs Windows 7 RC like a dream. I don't blame you for wanting to run Linux, the Vista that comes installed on this laptop is a serious piece of crap. Reply to steve | 13 thebarx, on May 7, 2009 12:26:42 am BSTIt's not a Joke. Windows Vista, Windows xp are really unstable.
Ubuntu 8.10 is the best choice, not 8.04 or 9.04 Windows 7 It seems to be another Micro$oft Piece of Crap, because I've been using Windows mostly 10 years, and I can tell you everything works with Ubuntu Intrepid. Wifi works, the latest driver of ati works, the latest of the latest works talking about computer drivers.
I've used withe the Danm stupid Os/ Vista. Wifi Sucks. in Ubuntu Intrepid it's okay and pretty much better ethernet. Remeber update. In windows updates are like hell. You don't know which one will crash your computer.
In Ubuntu nor Mac will never crash with an update. It's faster, also if you put 4 gb of ram and a bigger HD.
That's a Dream, not alike a dream.
If you want to use for games, for get it waste your time install windows and crack antivirus, antispyware, antymalaware, a speed costumizator that only eliminate the trash you can eliminate manually. I don't know normal people that buy some software legally, only Mac users but because it's well supported.
if you want a notebook for office, for web, for server, for work, for design, for everything use Linux.
if you want a notebooks for play games and waste your time use the crappy Os's of microsoft.
if you want a notebook for office, for web, for server, for work, for design, for everything and games use Ubuntu.
But's your choice
Remember Ubuntu 8.10 not newer, not older not other linux distribution(Cause I've tried many of them) , Ubuntu 8.10
Sound is louder in Ubuntu
And Windows 7 I think not try it because since is WINDOWS smells like crap. I told you as an Aged windows user and Pro-Linux User Reply to thebarx |

but do have some preformens problems whit grafics... anyone for a tip on this?? Reply to JeThro | 15 Barx, on Jul 20, 2009 10:26:36 pm BSTFirst, check in google the components of your machine. Look What graphic video card you have. Sometimes it has a label or a sticker in some visible part of your machine, if it's a laptop, it's near the keyboard, if it's a PC, the sticker may be in cpu.
The known are ATI or Nvidia. If has Intel processor, may be Intel Graphics card, so Intel y by default in Ubuntu.
If it's intel processor and it doesn't have any video graphic card, so look for install compiz by Synaptic, if you use gnome or adept if you use kde enviroment desktop.
If problem persist, look in google typing: computer-brand model problem ubuntu
That make me get into the blog or the forum were may be another people with same problem, resolving it or getting success few time ago.
Keep trying geek noob. Reply to Barx |
