Compaq won't go past frist screen.

Hello, I have a compaq computer it is about 1 year old and when i start it up it stays at the screen with the F11 options and boot menu option but doesn't go any farther than that and won't let me choose one. plz help

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0
