Stuck on windows logo screen

Hiya
trying to reformat comp . loaded os disc in drive and booted from there. it came up with windows setup and options to repair no repair and to exit. i hitthe repair button. it checked files then started to reload xp at no time have i seen a partitioning option, i jsut let the program run but it has been running for 3 hrs now and for the last 21/2 hours it appears to be stuck on the windows logo window with a message pls wait ...
im sure thatt ths is not rite , could someone pls pls pls help me , this is driving me nuts

comp is hp compaq dx2200 xp and running latest IE
