Help with Imovie 08 Import

Hello,
I've been editing old home movies with the Imovie 08. I have a Macbook pro.
I imported 4 hours of film into 4 parts. I was halfway through the first part and suddenly all of the imports changed color, mostly they look highly overexposed. I've tried to troubleshoot without any success.
Any suggestions on what happened?
