Why does my anti virus turn off

Hello,
help please....i have spyware doc which i get on great with and i think its doing what its meant to do. however a few months ago i turned my laptop on and the antivirus had been turned off. silly weird things were happening and also a small screen appears saying navigation to webpage was cancelled,i cant get rid of the screen once it appears,i can put another page on top of it but it will only go away when i switch off,tho sometimes it comes back soon after starting up again,its not continuous and can go days without doing it. i also have a ghosting effect on my yahoo login page,which is just a ghost effect of the drop down saying security etc. spyware doc did a malware check and they couldnt find anything.id be grateful for any advice.

Seems there is a virus that disable your anti-virus, and if it's what i'm thinking it's a very tough one so, you have to reformat to get rid of it.

The anti virus i have was recommended and upto the job.its not a free download,which im not knocking by the way. they ran a malware check and it was checked by spyware docs people who couldnt find any thing untoward,i do virus scans on a regular basis everyday.its picked up what it called a couple of low risk and dealt with them. how do i reformat? is they another way of doing a virus check? could it be a conflictof somesort if yes how can i check for conflicts? thanks for your response.
