No sound from LAPTOP to TV

Hello,
i have a compaq notebook pc. and a celestial lcd tv. i have plugged in the VGA cables from my laptop to the back off my tv and that all works fine, i have also bought a plug that goes from my headphone jacks, and splits into a red and a white which i have plugged into the IN port on my tv. but NO sound. i was wondering if there was a setting i needed to set, or unset on either the tv, or the laptop. any help is appreciated. cheers

Hi there,

just to be sure just check the sound level on your pc

double click on sound icon on system tray and raise the sliders

if they are fine then change the cable

The cable in brand new ay. pretty sure it shud be working. i checked all volume levels on pc and tv. still nothing.:@

Never mind my Q.

Was trying to do this on my Sony Bravia, noticed other people saying that they were having probs so tried my panasonic Vierra and it worked straight away!
