Hello,

I have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop with windows xp and Mcafee anti-virus software.
Yesterday a message popped up from Mcafee saying I have a virus and gave the option to scan and restart my laptop which I clicked on.
Now when I start up my laptop all I see is my Desktop Background, no icons or Start menu. I have looked around various websites and tried to do the CTR+ALT+DEL method but it doesn't work. I tried to reboot my computer but there is no option to repair the operating system I can only reinstall a new one which will delete all my files on the laptop which I certainly don't want.
Any help at all will be very much appreciated.
Dan

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

1. You can restart your computer - F8 - then choose
'Last Known Good configuration' to rollback

or

2.
Enter in safe mode , disable your anti virus then try to restart
