Cant hear sound in ubuntu 9.04

Hello,
i have installed ubuntu 9.04 and i cant hear sound. I have a creative SB Live value external sound card attached into the mother board.
I can watch movie or video files but no sound comes out from the speaker or headphone.


i would very much appreciate if any one could suggest me to solve out this problem.
