IE keeps running an online scan

Hello,
I have a problem I am hoping someone can help me with. I have ran my antivirus and malwarebytes and still this issue has not resolved. I even downloaded Firefox to use as my default browser instead of IE, however, IE keeps opening as if on a timer and starts running this online security scan and even if you click you don't want it to, it does anyway, can't even 'X' it out. Have to delete it from task manager to get it to stop, but it interupts my work and has slowed everything way down. Anyone know a fix for this... I'm at my wits end... wish I were a techie..
