Why my massenger cant sign in automatically

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

Hi there,

follow these steps:

open messenger>

enter email id>

password>

then select connect remember me>

remember my password>

sign me automatically

then sign in

go to options>

general tab>

select Automatically rum WLM when i log to windows

then press on apply

Thanks for ur answerd to my asked but iwant telling u that after following ur steps untill signing in massenger there is no icon of option in menu bar. but there is one in icon tools ,and so when i click there is no general tab or select automatically rum WLM. so what can i do now
