Hello,
I have a Dell C840 latitude with windows 2000 that was given to my mom for small home business. I do not have the original discs supplied with the pc. I've been attempting to restore it to its full capabilities but have found that many of the program and driver files are missing such as Roxio software, multimedia controller files, some sound and device drivers. Now i have managed to find and download a good portion of original and alternative programs and files but am still lacking. My main focus now is the cdrw/dvd combo drive(HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N). It allows access to CD ROM and DVD disks, will run, play, and install from these... but will not access or recognize a blank disk. D: drive not accessible/ Incorrect Function is displayed if this is attempted. I've tried uninstalling and reboot allowing PC to reinstall it at startup. I've tried upgrading and downloading/installing new driver files for the drive, and hardware wizard says device is working properly and new driver search says suitable driver is already installed. I've also tried cleaning the drive. Basically every advisement that I've found online. I HAVE NOT yet checked the IDE cable for connection as the drive will perform every other function. My ultimate question now I guess is... In that particulare drive's driver file details... HOW MANY DRIVER FILES SHOULD BE SHOWING??? the following is listed:
C:\TEMPWIN\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys
C:\TEMPWIN\system32\DRIVERS\redbook.sys
C:\TEMPWIN\system32\storprop.dll
are any/all these the correct drivers?
if not, which is correct? which shouldn't be there?
or.... If every thing sounds o.k. what should i do to correct my drive to allow reading of blank disks...?
thanks in advance for your time.
