Hi Rehma,

Yes you need to have Windows Server 2003 first and then you need to install the MSSQL server 2005 on it.

Hope this clear your confusion.

Open SSMS as adminstrator. It will connect to database then.

I had the same problem with SQL Server 2005 on Vista. I've un installed and installed it 3 times. but no use.

When I try to open ssms as adminstrator, it worked fine...Hope it will work for you too

Microsoft is withdrawing support for Sql server 2000

You can install Sqlserver 2005 on Vista, however before running, you should download Sql server 2005 Sp2 and run it.

All:

SQL is meant to be ran on Server OS' hence the poking SQL Server title. It is however possible to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. This version of SQL can be installed under all the current versions of Windows XP thru Vista always you should install the latest service pack (SQL Server SP2).

good luck.

After 3 weeks of search, i came to know that SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition wont work with Vista, instead of telling this in straight some websites made me to download sp2 unnecessarily.

Here's the conclusion: If you want to work with SQL server 2005 enterprise edition change you OS to Server 2003. Else be with Vista but install SQL server 2005 Developer Edition.

Even if you have Developer edition of SQL 2005 and vista, just make sure to check your computer name. There is a bug and your system name should be ALL caps for the SQL 2005 to install correctly.
