Windows IE7 has stopped working

Hello,
When I click on IE icon I get part of the windows home page and then a message appears:
"0x71ab4a83" referenced memory at "0x71ab4a83". The memory could not be written
Click OK to terminate program
Click CANCEL to debug program
this has been happening for weeks now and I have been working without IE and using Google chrome instead. This has been fine but there are times when I need to have access to IE. What can I do? I do not have installatio disk as it was installed at factory.
Please help.
