Black screen after Windows loads

Hello,
I have a 4 yr old Dell desktop. I have Windows XP home edition. I turned on my PC the other day and it went to Windows page with the blue moving bar. When it should have gone on to the user name page it went black. I booted using f2 and f8 and f12 and from there I ran all the system tests and they all passed exept the keyboard. I must have missed a button. Anyway, I tried booting with SAFE MODE and VGA. Nothing. This is my first problem with this PC. Fan runs. I wriggled cables. It did tell me that Windows did not start sucessfully due to an unknown issue. It said a possible power issue or press of the reset button. Don't know. I tried to start under LAST KNOWN WORKING CONDITION too. Can you please help me. It seems I have tried everything.

Configuration: Windows XP Home Edition
