Audio device not working

Hello,
I have made a new installation of xp pro in my G7 lap top with phoenix as mother board. the windows default sound is working. but in sounds and audio devices all the fields are in grey, and the msg is no play back device, no recording device and no midi devices. the volume control is also locked.
