Hello,
I have been reading the Q and A and feel you guys can help me.
I have an elderly Dell work station 410MT which has been out of service for a year - sitting quietly in the room. It worked when I retired it. I'm now trying to reactivate it. \
It powers up, lights flashing, whining and humming like it used to. screen comes on and it recognizes the two SCSI drives but shows a message to <press control-A to get the SCSI Select Utility>. Shows that the cover has been removed before, followed by a repeat of the note to <press Control - A for SCSI Select Utiliity>
This is followed by two beeps and the message to press F1 to try to reboot, or F2 to reach SetUp.
Lights flash on both hard drives and one also on the mother board.
I have tried to boot from the original Windows 2000 disc and also trie to use an Ubuntu disc. Nothing worked.
I tried the eraser trick, independently using each memory card to boot, pulling all connections, using two different CD drives to boot with the CDs.
The Pent lll warms up nicely, the fan works.
I am not sure about the Set Up settings or the SCSI Utility settings. I don't think that they have been changed.
Any clever ideas to try?
Your advice to others seems to be great.
A good service.
