The VGA port on most laptops is not active until it is switched on. Did you apply the required function key combo to send the video to the VGA port?

I'm not sure, but the thing is i connected the vga output into my laptop, connected the rca into the tv and switched over to the correct channel in the tv/video option, but the tv display was VERYYYY dark, distorted and i couldn't make anythingout.
