Gateway laptop M series internet issues

Hello,
I have a gateway m series lap top that will not recognize my house router. I just moved to Spain from the US. I know nothing about computers so I don't know if changing countries is relevant to this. Anyways, my wireless works fine at school but I come home and it doesn't recognize the wireless router here so my wireless network won't appear. The weird thing is that it recognizes about 8 other networks in the apartment building except mine. Also, both of my roommates compters work fine (a mac and a dell) and even my ipod gets the internet connection. I've tried turning off the router, turning off my friend's connection since I though maybe it might be interfearing with mine but nothing seems to work. Help me please! I have no idea what to do.

Thanks in advance,
Myra
