Laptop won't accept my network key

Hello,

I set up a secure wireless network on my desktop. My Acer laptop accepted the network key just fine. But my Dell laptop does not - while it recognizes my secure network, when it asks for the network key and I enter the one I set up, it says it has to be 5 or 13 acii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters. In other words, the laptop sees my 'Security Enabled Wireless Network' but will not accept the network key needed to connect to the internet. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.14
