AT&T DSL Modem wont connect

Hello,

I have AT&T DSL. They gave me a Motorola Modem. Lately I have had no connection to the internet. The DSL light will go from green to red (very quickly and frequently) and the internet light won't come on. Had the tech out to my house last week. He had it running but it lasted only about 24 hours. I have been in numerous phone conversations with AT&T and am just getting the runaround. Naturally I am getting very frustrated with the lack of service I am getting.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem? I am not very computer literate but smart enough to get into trouble with it. I can figure our most of the computer problems. Could this be a firewall problem? A virus? Or a bad modem? How can I tell if the modem is bad?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0
