Blurb:

Hello and welcome to my post :)

My computer is new, all stuff should work. That doesn't mean much but hopefully it might rule out something. It's just had new memory.

I'm using vista 32bit.

Symptoms:

Computer powers on. Starts to boot. Gets as far as showing the initial screen, and sometimes even the windows loading screen. Then it reboots. The speakers cut power, the monitor stands by.

Then it reboots, but the screen never comes back on. The computer appears to be on, the HDD light sometimes flashes. I've tried leaving it 5 minutes and logging in blindly to see if it's the monitor (hi tech solution I know). The thing is I hear no sounds hence I believe it is not loading.

Anyone got any ideas? Your helps is much appreciated in advance.

Configuration: Windows Vista
Firefox 3.0.1

Can be heat or power. Have you tried removing some internal cards to see if it gets any better ? Jeff

I would assume it's not heat because it's a boot issue not a "it's been on for hours doing all sorts of intense processes".

Power would seem odd to, as once it does boot I never have an issue, this is purely a boot problem.

Maybe you should try to reset BIOS to factory settings !

Possible, but as it's kind of new I'd expect they've not changed much. I mean the PC works a good percentage of the time. It just doesn't some times, and being as I've spent money on this bloody thing I want it to work perfectly.

It's only a matter of time before I get fully annoyed and start a blog about the company who I bought it from :)

Did it work at correctly after the memory install? Sounds like it is hangging in memory. Are you sure the memory was compatible with your motherboard and Operating System? Also if the memory was not seated competely the tabs won't lock on the sides of the memory slots. This means it needs to be taken out and reseated. Of coarse this is only if the computer has not worked since the memory install, but this is what it sounds like to me. And just incase the processor was remeved for any reason make sure it was also reaseated correctly because I have seen this same issue a couple of times with a processor not correctly installed. I hope this may help.
