Hello,
I have a 5 yr old Dell Dimension 8400. I started getting the BSoD as Windows was booting up. Running checkdisk (I think) from the boot menu, it would get through about 20% of the drive then fail. I figured that a key sector with Windows on it had failed.
I bought a new Seagate HDD and installed it as the boot drive w/ no prob. I'm booting from the new drive and trying to access the old drive as a 2nd HDD to copy my files. It is a SATA Maxtor and it is connected to SATA 1 on the motherboard (the new drive is 0 and ports 2 and 3 are empty).
BIOS sees the drive and can read data like the manufacturer. Windows XP assigned it Drive F and I can see it in Windows Explorer. However I cannot read from it and Properties shows it with size 0 bytes. I uninstalled it in Windows and rebooted and Windows recognized new hardware but that didn't help. Obviously I do NOT want to format this drive.
Thanks!
Configuration: SATA HDD/Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0
